Xterra Elite compared to Equinox 900

Just bought the Elite to replace my 600 as my back up. Will let you know how it does. I bought it because it has a lot of the same VDI, tones and functions as my Manticore, so when I use it as a back up or loaner I'll be familiar with it.

Hey! Could you share an update on how it’s going with the Elite vs your 600? Deciding between an Elite (No warranty) for $275 or an Elite Expedition bundle (w/ warranty) for $360 right now.

Spent hours researching bit confused on which is the superior detector. Thanks!

The Xterra elite is an excellent choice for a back up to the Manticore. It goes' deep and separates well. Has the same controls as the Manticore. It doesn't have the 2 D screen, but it also uses all the Equinox coils

Yeah I haven't even updated my Nox 900 yet with the new software update. I believe the Xterra Elite already has a modified version of the same software that the Nox 900 received recently.

Just out of curiosity, are you not updating the software because of the bad reviews from those that did? I have heard from a bunch of 900 users that report not to update. Just curious.

No I haven't updated it cause I don't have a computer to do it. I guess I haven't paid much attention, but I thought the update help with stability & iron handling ability.

I have a pair of Thresher headphones that I used with my XTerra pro last summer… they sound great and have plenty of volume in my opinion.

I recall iffy signals, in one of his recent videos, saying something to the effect that the XTE uses the same processor as the 700 and the XTE is basically a 700 without a few of the more advanced settings. Considering the Expedition Pack comes with 2 coils and the wireless phones, that's a pretty good deal for the money especially if you're one who probably won't be messing around with advanced settings.

I just picked up an X-Terra Elite Expedition pack. I haven't seen Iffy Signals video, but I'll have to look for it because I totally agree with him and did a post on the Friendly Metal Detector Forum about the same thing.

I have a hunch/theory about the NOX's and X-Terra's, can't prove it yet, but I'm in the process of trying to either get confirmation, or to find out if I'm wrong. Although I could have bought any of the NOX's, I went with the X-Terra Elite because I think they're all the same detector (NOX 900, NOX 700, X-Terra Elite, X-Terra Pro). The difference in the detectors would simply be how the software/firmware for each detector was programmed. Certain features could be limited on lower cost models, higher cost models get more features.

That would explain why you can swap coils between any of these detectors, but not the Manticore, as the Manticore is a totally different detector, with different electronics and internals. It would also make business sense for Minelab to make only 1 detector that they can turn into 4 different models. That would save them huge $ on inventory costs, components needed to build, etc. Again, at this point, it's just a hunch/theory I have, but I think I'm right and I'm reaching out to see if I can get confirmation, or if I'm totally off track.

Grey ghost they are the same for the Manticore, Xterra and Equinox. In fact I use them all the time they sound so much better than any of the stock phones

I own an 800 and an Elite Expedition Pack and can tell you the 800 lives in my basement as a backup machine and the Elite is my main detector. If you can get the Elite XP for $360 you should jump on that deal.
