Xterra on NJ beach....

Member
I have an Xterra 705 with the 10x5 HF DD coil and the 10.5" MF DD coil and will be trying it out for the first time on a NJ beach. Can anyone who has used their Xterra's on these type of beach conditions tell me what coil they used, how they set their machine up and any other tips.

Caution those coils are only water resistant not waterproof.
Use beach mode and tracking in the wet sand.

I wish minelab would explain their reasoning for making half the dang coils waterproof and the other half water resistant. The other companies make all their coils submergable. Why cant minelab? I love my exterra 705 but...I hate the fact I can only use part of my coils in the water.

I waterproof my Minelab coils by using Plumber's Goop all around where the cable enters the coil and also up the cable to beyond the end of the cable strain relief. Haven't had a problem yet...

In September I used my 10.5" DD on the beach in Ocean City, MD with good results. I kind of went back and forth between Beach Mode and the regular mode. I can't remember why but I want to say that I had better results in the regular mode.

At what these coils cost you'd think they would be waterproof. But even if they were to come out with them now because I am retired now there is no way I could ever be able to replace them, in fact if I ever break or damage one there is no way I could replace it. I had to actually put a label on each coil so I could remember which ones were waterproof and water-resistant.
