Not too many days left to hunt I think. Might be able to make it into December I suppose. Today though the sun was out, so wanted to try my luck again. Although I wanted to revisit a place farther out, my wife wanted me to stay closer and suggested a nearby old standby instead. Glad I listened!
I focused on a small area around some trees that I hadn't spent too much time on before. I had always assumed that the ground had been redone, so didn't have much hope. But I pulled a Wheat fairly early in the couple hours I had, so I slowed down. The breeze wasn't helping, as it made it cold despite the sun.
Got another Wheat, so then I thought I'd hold out for better tones with depth. Soon after I managed a Merc. I never get tired of pulling those out.
Picked up a bit of clad, then started a line towards my vehicle, as it was time to wind down. I still was poking along when I got a fairly decent signal. I thought maybe another Wheat, possibly a dime. There's a powerline nearby, and it was giving me a bit of interference here and there, but not too bad. But it made the iffy signals even a bit more choppy, so it was kind of a weird thing, trying to sort all that out. But this one poinpointed, had some depth, so I got down to business.
I put the probe into the opening, and it sang out, but more to the side. I wasn't thinking silver at all, just listening to the tone. I took out another slice from the side, and then there in the dirt I saw the big silver rim grinning out at me between a dirt sandwhich. I knew it was a half, and was thinking maybe a Walker. I didn't have a container big enough to pack the whole thing, so I decided to pop it out there. I about fell over when I realized it was a Barber! Man, what a thrill that was. And geez, was I ever wrong about this part of the area having been redone. Now I'll have to work it thoroughly with patterns, but that will have to wait.
