Yellow Jacket wars of 2012 (long post)

I did a stupid thing last summer. I was cutting the grass/weeds when I saw a yellow jacket hole next to a rotten tree stump, bees flying in and out, so I steered clear. Made a mental note to get them later.
Finished cutting and went straight to weed whacking totally forgetting about the nest until the little bas - - rds reminded me. They're not very forgiving creatures. As I'm whacking away (wearing shorts) I'm thinking the weed whacker is shooting stones or something painful at my shins, then I looked down at my legs and saw them zapping me, Yikes!!, I forgot, dropped the whacker, ran in the backyard and jumped in shallow end of the pool. Wife was at the pool and got a laugh from it. I could feel those stings until late evening...potent stuff.

Around here in Pa. the most aggressive are the ones that construct the paper ball with the hole at the bottom. They will chase you. And don't disturb them at night while holding a flashlight.

I like them old wives tales Ma Betty. No science in them, just pure learning by doing or just observing.

When I was Working at La Center Wa, Grade and High School then at the new High School I had to empty Outside garbage cans and in the fall they would be swarming with Yellow Jacket so all I did was just go to the can and pull the bag out tie it up with a lot of of the bees in side and I think I got stung once---It may sound stupid but I always talked to the bees mentally saying I am not going to hurt you and it and it seemed to work

Gee thanks for the words---Mite as well tell you I can No longer Walk with out a push walker because my knees very much need replacing and Kaiser told me NO Way in H=== Will they do that So I can no longer do any Hunting 1 reason is we have so much Brush there is only way I can Hunt and that is Road hunt so I try to do that---Last year I saw a nice 2 point (Western Count) and I could not get out fast enough to get a Shot Off with my 454--So this year I will be taking my boy with me and because of the shape I am in, He can shoot mine for me + 1 for Himself

make a paste of meat tenderizer and water and daub it on the sting. Wasp venom contains proteins and the tenderizer has enzymes that break down protein. I think you'll find this really lessens the effects of the sting.
