Thakns for the info,Mike-Im lookin to get a HP Laptop-just FULL of goodies....A web camera, alrerady has Norton in it;comes with spy-sweeper too, wireless capability....Believe it or not,Im getting it for about$300.00 LESS than I paid for my E-machines monitor, printer and tower 41/2 years ago.Has Windows Vista Home Premium already stuffed in it,too.Anybody familiar with it??I had to get ahold lf my internet provider today to get my password to access the'net-I'd forgotten what it was,and my tower went south,SO I called'em up,and GOT IT-Hopefully;all I will have to do when I get home Saturday is power up,and see ya all on here sometime Saturday!!!

...make sure you have pleny of ram!! You need a minimum of 2mb of ram because Vista will use 43% of 1mb. I learned this when shopping for a laptop for my daughter last spring and got lucky and found a Toshiba that had XP on it. Ask your salesman about the amount of ram you need before you purchase it. HP makes a good laptop, I've had one about 3 years.

Congrats! Can't wait to see a post from the new computer! :)

I was checkin' out their prices and they're pretty good! Like Doug said, double check on the RAM but I'm pretty sure those laptops are loaded... As far as Norton is concerned, it may just be a 60 or 90 day "free" trial and then you have to subscribe. But you'd have to do that anyway. Can't do without a good virus protection.

I've fooled around with Vista and it's going to be a bit different from what you're used to but it's not hard to pick up. Lot's of bells and whistles :) For the wireless Internet, you're going to need a wireless router (unless you're in a place where they have it like Starbucks, etc). With that, you can go pretty much anywhere in your house and use your laptop. No posting on the forum from the john is allowed

all the stuff I have here is older than what you had so guessing it wouldn't have helped much. As far as Vista goes...I haven't heard any reviews that people liked it. Our public library has wireless internet...but it won't work with Vista equipped systems. no idea why.

I hope all the negative stuff said about Vista is just a bunch of people who hate the changes from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 to Windows 98 to Windows 98Se - to Windows ME to Windows XP (or NT or 2000) and now to Vista.

The older machines worked pretty good with 95 thru ME...personally I still love DOS. Easier to work with and understand...used to run a bulletin board service (BBS) back in the 80s on DOS. Loved it and it has not been as good since.
