Yes...ANOTHER military button. Any guesses!?

Well I hit the same place I find the last two buttons...and wouldn't you know it, I came up with another one....along with some other goodies I will post shortly. Does anyone have any clue about this button!? The front appears to have nothing more than a crown with the letters "H.S" underneath. As you can see there is remnants of some gold gilting on the front, and a lot of it left on the back. The shank is still there but crushed. I can't see a backmark of any sort. I don't want to clean the back for fear of removing the gold gilt which is left...but I really don't think there is a backmark!? This could be a tough one.

I should note it is 3/4" wide.

I think this is a token. I've never seen anything so thin though! Thinner than a fishscale!

I can only make out something on one side...a large masted ship.

Hope you can see it in the pics.

Any ideas!?

not sure what this thing is. It's 1 1/2" high, and 1 3/8" wide. I can make out "Patented 1846" and a couple of other letters. There is a pin on the back still, and the hole at the button has remnants of leather around it. Any ideas what the heck this thing is?!

The pin at the top looks very much like the one I found yesterday. A flat button in there. A button with god knows what on it...all I can figure out is the tree. Some piece of metal with "1876" stamped on it. No sure what the pin with the loop on it is. The rest I took individual pics of.

Thats a really neat button man. I wish I could tell you about it, but I don't know. Someone will chime in that know british buttons. I can tell you one thing, Its a nice old button! It looks just like the royal provincials (sp?) button but different letters. Neat stuff man!.....Aaron

hey Neal. It's just a strip of land along Lake Ontario that once contained a blockhouse and battery. Although the land has seen many uses over time I am sure. It's vacant now.

if anyone was curious about this button, I found a website which describes the british uniform of 1805 from for NAVY...

"Assistant surgeons and hospital mates
Blue Cloth Coat without Lappels, plain round Cuffs, stand up Collar, Waistcoat and Breeches of white or blue Cloth, as may be convenient...

Those serving afloat to wear a Button with a plain Anchor in an Oval. Those serving in Hospitals to wear a similar Button, with the addition of H.S. (For Hospital Staff)."

Due to the lack of anchor, perhaps this is a Hospital Staff button for land elements of that same period?!

Wess,

Nice find! What size is the coin and can you show a photo of the reverse?
I love all the buttons you've been finding!

Have a look in the Guide Book of United States Coins ("Red book") in the colonial coins section. The 1795 Talbot, Allum & Lee Cent (pg 65 in the 2005 edition) looks like it could be close. Sorry, I can't post a scan.
