Just the other day I saw a Post with a few Links to a site that has Different programs for the SE, But for the life of me I cannot find it now....
Anyone have the Info?

What I'm trying to look for is decent Program for an Old Park....

But not just an "OLD" one... This Park is called Arsenal Park "Pittsburgh,Pa" and back in the day it was a true Arsenal that Provided ammunitions for the Civil War and such....

I got to talking to the Care-Taker and he was informing me of all the Good spots, and the areas that had Fill dirt added to other areas....

He mentioned that there was a MDer not to long ago that found a Ring from 1840 & a Cannon-Ball....

The thing that got me was he Looked at my Minelab SE and said the other guy's Detector wasn't so Fancy as Mine:rolleyes:
So it may have been a Whites.:rofl:

But to make a long story short... I'm looking for a decent program

Park isn't to tooo Trashy but my Guess would be in some area's that may have its Iron & Steel....

I just don't want to miss any potential Relics......

And I haven't done any Relic Hunting at all soooo You can see I need some help.......

Thanks,
Dennis

Psss.....
He also added that in some area's there are Tunnels on the Property also...

I hope to see him today this way I can Find out how to get into them....

Scan the walls & floors

Dennis,

Arsenal Park was one of my main stomping grounds when I lived in "the Burgh!"...how are things there these days?

You're right about the Civil War connection but that has to do with a huge explosion close by the park which scattered thousands of minie balls all around the area...and yes, I have dug them.

My recollection of detecting there was: a smaller coil is necessary as signals can come very close together and you need good target separation.
So if you don't have one get your hands on a small 8" Minelab coil - it will be worth it.

As for a program? I'd probably today search Arsenal park with a Factory Preset program and change ONLY Sensitvity and signal tone - I'd change the presets and bring up a "higher tone" as this helps sharpness of signals.

Are the North Hills based "Pittsburgh Pastfinders" still going?
I helped establish that club - we had some great people!

If I meet you in the field one day on a visit I'll let you buy me an "IC Light!"

Good Hunting

Hi Des,

I do use the Minelab 8" coil and it works like a charm.. I'm very new to Pittsburgh. I've only been here for about 3 weeks... I came here to do some remodeling work...

I Feel as if I'm in detector heaven with all these Old historic Parks that are here in Pittsburgh... Now if I can only "find" some history it will make my stay here that much better...
I seem to find myself more and more in the Library's more and More investigating the area..
And while looking up Arsenal Park I found a Doc. on a woman Who Survived the Big Explosion.. And The "WEIRDEST" thing is that she carried my same last Name....
How strange is that? There must be a reason Or Purpose to bring me here?
Maybe my Luck is about to change.....

As far as the Pittsburgh Pathfinders I haven't been able to find any info on them...Or for that matter a MD Club in the area..

But it sure would be nice to meet up with some Local MDist's and pick there brains a lil....

Here are a few old pics

They come up to me and tell me to stop or i will go to jail. police woman said to me the lottery fund has donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to improve this park , she said you cant "dig the park up". I only had a three inch trowel.

:twodetecting: well the good thing for me is that "the Director" of Public Works the people who take care of the Parks Like "Park's & Recreation"

Gave me Permission to detect ..... As Back Up he "Director" Has left 2 voicemails on my cell phone....

So if I have a Problem I can play the message to all who has a Problem with me Detecting :clapping:

A high degree of anti park detecting is now the norm here.
Years ago parks were not out of bounds, but now well things have changed and i have to say i have given up on parks because of the high degree of trouble it attracts from park workers who phone the police at the drop of a hat. Stay away from parks is what i say to others or you will get lots of trouble! Happy hunting brothers. Most parks are cleared out anyway so i guess not a big loss.

Spy cameras on parks  We here are the orwellian culture and now spied on by people in camera rooms watching us on average 300 times per day so it says on sky news. I can't figure out why spy cameras should be put on parks of all places , surely this is insanity and a waste of many millions of pounds. This is happening more and more on parks over here , i mean who wants to detect and be recorded on a computer hard drive. You guys in the usa don't know your born!. Every street corner here has a spy camera recording our every move.

(Must be live ammo but look old like buried for a while. Carry some pieces of broken glass, an old rusty pocket knife......Then when the police comes ask them if they want their son or daughter accumulating such items in their little knees while playing in a park that isn't so safe.

I always leave some of the ruff stuff I find at school yards in my pouch, if some questions what I'm doing I pull the junk out of my middle pocket and say removing sharp objects and rusty nails so that if children fall they don't get cut or worse infections!

Has worked every time!

Good idea and very true, i also take away sharp bits close to or on the surface.:clapping: These days i have also noticed a really big increase in the amount of chewed up aluminium pop tins with edges like razors that the grass cutter has left behind. This is a modern phenomina as years ago i never found hardly any slices of chewed up pop tins. I guess a few others will have noticed this too.
