Yesterday's battlesite finds

Visited an old Filipino-Spanish battlesite dating to 1898. My Sov was malfunctioning and stuck in all metal mode but this wasn't too much of a problem as trash was minimal. My past experience with this site also shows that the bullets came in louder & sharper in All metal while Disc mode was a little unstable and meter numbers tended to jump 2-3 numbers.

Am unsure but the leftmost bullet appears to be WW2. The rightmost bullet has a white patina. For easier sizing & ID, each of the squares in the background is equivalent to one square centimeter.

Really interesting. The one on left could be WW2 tracer round. The one on far right really looks old. Just when I was complaining about sharing hunting experience you post this. Great. Is the site well known as a battle site? Americans were involved extensively in Philippine's affairs after Cuba 1898. Many recorded battles in US unit histories, if your interested in historical research and finding those sites. 9th US Inf was one of those units. HH Don

battleThat would be interesting. Do you have a site or link to this Infantry unit in the Philippines? It would be nice to find a button or two... :)

Hi Doug. Thanks for private message. Interesting stuff. Here is some information I hope will be helpful. The WEB is full of on-line info on US/Philippine Insurrection (US name). Close to Manila a good unit to follow is the 14th US Inf involved in the battle of Zapote River 13 June 1899.
If the area has not been completely overrun by modern Manila it is listed at 7 miles south. Part of the action was an ambush at Bacoor. The battle was a US Army frontal attack against the Philippine Army entrenched along river. 3000 US and est 5000 Philippine Army. The primary US Inf rifle was the 30-40 Krag. The Philippine Army was armed with German Mauser's (8MM I think). If you research you can get bullet shape and size. If you start picking up any of those rounds and brass you know your on track. By all accounts both sides fired a bunch. Finding buttons of any unit involved would be a great find.

I mentioned the 9th US Inf because it is my old unit and I am familiar with its history. The 9th still has one of the three Bells of Balangiga (good war story) , taken (Filipinos might say stolen), from the Philippines and maintained by the 9th Manchu Regt as an honored war Trophy. There are those in the Philippines that want it back. No I didn't take it. Hey I'm old but not that old.

Here is a link to 14th Inf:
14th infantry in Philippines (just search this title). Good first-hand account of battle.

Good hunting. Don
