That is a odd bullet. Its hard to tell from the pic but could that be a small roundball (pistol) shoved in the base???

Thought that too, really not sure. What you see in the pic is what I see here...it is what it is .

It appears to be a fused pistol/buck shot. Rare enough find however. The British experimented with "plugs" during the 1850s; clay, iron and the CS used boxwood plug base Enfield bullets. Someone may have had the same idea; the "plug" would cause the skirt to expand better into the lands and grooves of the rifling. Wasn't necessary and the Brit's abandoned their use. Sold the boxwood Enfield's to the South during the war. Cool find!
