YES....the hunting weather is finally here. I am not going to have near as much time to hunt this year...so I wanted to get out today. The ground is still mucky in many spots but it's okay in a few others. I like this time of year because the grass isn't grown up yet and you get more depth. It seems like from the end of April on...I'm always contending with 6" to 8" high grass...and you can't get the coil within 3" of the ground which costs you valuable depth. I used the combo of the 6" excelerator coil along with the 1050 coil and every coin I dug was from 7" to 9" deep. I popped out the first merc and saw the CLEAR 1916 date and my heart skipped a couple of beats cause it's in great shape. Said a little prayer...turned it over...but NO D mint mark. I tried every angle in every way...but no matter which way I looked at it...STILL NO DOh well...it's probably the nicest 1916 I've ever found
I plugged along a pretty iron infested stretch and found a couple of wheaties along with 2 silver roosey's. I just slow way down when I'm in an iron infested area and listen for the slightest peeps...then try every angle. If I get that sweet silver sound...even from only one way...I'm diggin! 3 of the 4 silver coins I found only hit in one spot when I circled the hole and the cursor was dancin around...but the sound was so sweet in just that one little spot...I dug
I then popped on the 6" Excelerator coil and hit the trashy part. I popped out a 1918 wheatie from right at 9" down next to a rusty nail. I hunted for another hour or so...then got another sweet one way hit...but again...just that one little spot was a very nice silver hit...so I dug. Out popped the very nice 1923-S Merc. with a pull tab about 2" away in the bottom of the hole.

Bryce, that sure is some skillful detecting! I know that I miss a lot of coins, not because I don't go slow, but because the mixture of target sounds, the one way sounds...that I can't seem to decipher or "zero in" on.

You got it down to an art! Nice going...love those mercs!!

i havent been able to find any silver detecting yet but i found 3 silver dimes and a silver nickle in an old golf bag i got at a yard sale. does that count?

I'm thinking this year I will be using the 1050 and the Platypus less and more with the Sunray 8 inch and when in bad trash the 5 inch EXcellerator.

Maybe I'll use the Platy if I get to the beach and see how it performs there.

I still fight with the X-1 probe though. Probably me but more times than not switching it from the coil to probe is ok but when I use the probe and hit pinpoint...it screams in my ears. Doesn't seem to matter much if I am in IM or Smartfind with a disc. pattern set up or if I am in Manual or Auto Sensitivity.

Even holding the probe out away from the hole and me it still screams going in pinpoint.

Wonder if it is me or I need to send it in to Sunray to be checked over. What works for you Bryce so I can try it?
