YES....the hunting weather is finally here. I am not going to have near as much time to hunt this year...so I wanted to get out today. The ground is still mucky in many spots but it's okay in a few others. I like this time of year because the grass isn't grown up yet and you get more depth. It seems like from the end of April on...I'm always contending with 6" to 8" high grass...and you can't get the coil within 3" of the ground which costs you valuable depth. I used the combo of the 6" excelerator coil along with the 1050 coil and every coin I dug was from 7" to 9" deep. I popped out the first merc and saw the CLEAR 1916 date and my heart skipped a couple of beats cause it's in great shape. Said a little prayer...turned it over...but NO D mint mark. I tried every angle in every way...but no matter which way I looked at it...STILL NO D:ranting::thumbdown:Oh well...it's probably the nicest 1916 I've ever found:thumbup:
I plugged along a pretty iron infested stretch and found a couple of wheaties along with 2 silver roosey's. I just slow way down when I'm in an iron infested area and listen for the slightest peeps...then try every angle. If I get that sweet silver sound...even from only one way...I'm diggin! 3 of the 4 silver coins I found only hit in one spot when I circled the hole and the cursor was dancin around...but the sound was so sweet in just that one little spot...I dug:thumbup:
I then popped on the 6" Excelerator coil and hit the trashy part. I popped out a 1918 wheatie from right at 9" down next to a rusty nail. I hunted for another hour or so...then got another sweet one way hit...but again...just that one little spot was a very nice silver hit...so I dug. Out popped the very nice 1923-S Merc. with a pull tab about 2" away in the bottom of the hole.:bouncy:
Good luck to you all on your next hunt.

you are a silver DOG man i had to hunt most all day for mine.....you my friend are on FIRE!!! ...hope you can get out more than you are thinkin...because the way you are hittin the silver and oldies this year ALREADY ...you could just quit work and hunt for a living dude :super::yo: congrats

Bryce, I know how you felt about that merc.I dug a merc the other day that just barely made a sound and and the only reason I dug was it bounced silver once in a while and was it deep.Anyway great finds and good luck on your next hunt.Maybe we can hunt this summer if thing go well.

Good to see some Silver landed in your pouch on your hunt. I am hoping to join everyone here on finds real soon. Hope the luck continues for you and can't wait to see what else you uncover. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

try and meet and hunt again. We may have to meet is St.Louis or something like that...but there's plenty of parks there. It is a great time to meet and hunt with friends:beers:

Great hunt!! Man, I have never found four silvers in a day, hopefully that will change. You can tell that the snow is melting, the forum is gonna git hoppin. Cant wait to see more!!

of the silver you find lousy signals as you describe? Those silvers you found are typical of what I must do to find good coin. The good part is that it is a blast when you find coins others have undoubtedly missed. Once in a while I get a classic signal with good depth and I just sit there and swing on it like a goof ball for a few minutes. Nerd city.

This is a great forum and there are a lot of hunters who find a lot of stuff. What's cool is that there are a lot of different hunting styles that each one uses.

nasty sounding as I circle the target...but then just one of the swings as I circle the hole will sound sweet. Even though it sounds sweet on just one of the swings...IF it repeats that sweet sound as I go back and forth on that one spot...I dig.
"Once in a while I get a classic signal with good depth and I just sit there and swing on it like a goof ball for a few minutes. Nerd city."
Now that's funny Andrus(ut)!....AND I DO THE SAME THING:clapping:

Nice mercs.

I got me a 6" excellerator coil, thanks to Christopher in Ohio. Now I just have to wait for the big thaw. I took it out in the yard, which I have done over with the 8" coil, a roofing nail every 2" at least....but I think I hit a dime, maybe silver, not sure cause it is still frozen, but it is so small a target it is surrounded by nails but I can still hear it perfectly one way.
Question: when in iron nailville and have to go slow.....where is your sens. set at? I try sens. low first, just to get better seperation, and I can hear some deeper targets just making a quick clipping noise, then I know I got deeper targets and start to increase the sens. by the time I get high sens. I feel I have covered it better but then again if you change your direction out pops a coin you just went over....and then again on a diff. day you go over same place and it happens again....It's just going to take a long time to get them all......Glad you got soft ground and keep finding those silver coins.....and I will see how this 6" excell. is this spring.....Good luck Bryce :minelab:

full 32 semi auto with this coil. I hunt in conductive sounds with some iron mask like I always do...but this coil needs to be run hot for best depth. I found when I run it in the mid 20's or so..it was a pretty decent coil...but when I run it hot...it's a great coil...my favorite. When I'm digging dimes and wheaties from 7" to 8" amidst trash with this coil...It's obvious I'm not losing depth by running demi auto sensitivity. When I'm in the garbage zone...I pretty much just stand in one spot like a moron and just slowly scan the ground back and forth...then creep forward about a foot...and do the same thing. It's amazing the sounds and tones this coil gives you in the trash when you just creep along.
