You gotta love getting ripped off.

I just traded my Coinstrike for a Fisher 1266 from someone on this forum and I got it in the mail today. Guess what, it DOESN'T work. I turn it on an all it does is beep beep beep non stop even with the sensitivity turned all the way down and I wave silver coins over the coil and it doesn't do anything. Also the pinpoint trigger doesn't work. I'm going to call his local sheriffs office. What do you guys think?

I took a video of what it's doing. Any thoughts?

Doesn't sound good.

If you haven't already, I think I would give the guy a chance to make it right, it could have been working fine and something happened in shipping.

If you can get your hands on another coil you may want to try that. Wouldn't fix anything but you may be able tell if the problem is in the detector or the coil, just in case you get stuck with the trade.

I bought a used 1270 and had to eat a $135 repair bill.

I don't have access to another coil to try and I was assured that this 1266 was working fine. The box that it came in wasn't damaged at all and it was packed very well. I gave him a nice working detector, 2 coils, hip mount, manual, and old school Fisher bag all in great condition for this.

Un trade it.
If it doesn't work out....post his name.

I want to wait for a response from him first. I'm sure he'll just cancel the trade. If not then I'll explore other avenues.

(1) Disconnect the coil connector and try to clean the contact pins then reconnect it.

(2) Turn the number one disc control down to maybe 5, in the video its looks to be at max.

(3) Be sure the sensitivity control is clicked out (push in for max, pull out for low or normal) then turn it down.

The 1266 can be a bit noisy but at this point yours is making to much noise, some cracking and popping is normal but it should quieten down once the ground canceling circuits are working and the target response should come in above the noise, in fact during a target response the running noise drops off.

If it's still that noisy try running with the toggle pushed forward, this will switch it to the disc 2 circuit, if that fixes it then the problem is somewhere in the disc 1 circuit.

Oh, I also have a early version 1266X.

First and formost I have dealt with several members on this and other forums thru the years...and have never had anyone to act like you have on this deal...I have never sold/traded any detector that was not in perfect working order...I got in yesterday evening turned on the computer and right off read the PM's slamming me for sending a bad detector..which I would never do to anyone(as my feedback speaks for it's self on this and other forums) and then this morning I read you slamming me on the classic forum before I have had a chance to reply to your charges......I checked the detector to make sure it was working before wrapping it up to ship even had a hunting buddy watching me do the task so for you to say I sent you a bum detector is out of the question. I even sent priority mail with it insured...you said the package looked fine when you received it?????? I still am waiting on your package that was sent slow mail and without any insurance...But rest assured as soon as I receive your package I will return it unopened to you...as far as my detector I will reserve my comments untill I get it back......... joe

Good thing you got it insured Joe the post office should take care of you on the insurance! Later

I see there's another thread out there somewhere that clarifies this situation. This one should be deleted or rectified as it doesn't look good and is no fair to Joseph. But who am I to say...
