So this is every find I have made with my new Explorer up to this point. Not pictured is a 10K gold necklace, two silver dimes, a buffalo nickel, five wheaties and a childs ring. Am I complaining about the items I mentioned? Heck no ! But the crap on the plate (minus the clad) is getting me fired-up...and not in a good way...lol.

What is the first thing that comes to an Explorer veteran's mind when he/she see this?

I filled a few of those plates myself a few months ago when Bryce was helping me along with my new SE.
I am still learning too but am making progress. You are doing fine.
 
I don't know what comes to an Explorer veteran's mind, Dave, but I know what comes to mine... "gee, that stuff looks real familiar!" Wait a minute. On second thought, no, you don't have enough of those smashed aluminum screw caps, I only see one. And wait, only ONE rusty bolt I can see? Plus I don't see any grommets. And only about 3 pull tabs...and hey -- no can slaw?! Dude, you are slacking! That's all the junk you have dug? To go with the goodies you mentioned? Your treasure to trash ratio is WAAAY to high! I mean, you must be digging like one good target for every 3-4 junk ones! When you get to where you dig one good for every 9 to 10 trash pieces, THEN your plate will look more like mine! ;)

Seriously though, it can get frustrating. I can't tell you how many "silver warbles" I have dug, which turn out to be washers, small rusty bolts, corroded nails, pieces of aluminum... :)

Looks exactly like the junk I dig up with the E-Trac Dave...except the sickle section. How'd you get a sickle section to sound off???:wave:

Which piece is the sickle section?
 
Pointing out of the plate at about 1:30...maybe 1:34, triangular piece. [attachment 195527 049941-sickle_section.jpg]If it has two holes in the back for rivets (rivets may be broken off). I also see a Model T or A coil piece. You know you're in a good spot when something that old starts to surface. I think your stuff looks exactly like mine.

It means that you are learning a hell of a lot more than most. Every time you dig a target you learn the machine a little bit better. And remember, " It doesn't cost a thing to dig". And now you have some clean ground to go back over and can hear those deep targets that this crap may have mask.

Let me see.... what comes to mind.... OOOOOooo i know ... THANKS for digging that up haha. To be honest you are digging some pretty normal stuff. Keep an eye on the very right side of your upper screen when you get those high tones..... all kinds of goodies there. You think thats a bounch of junk.... go field hunting you fill a 5 gal. bucket real quick with whats-its. In time you will be playing the name it game... thats where you guess what you are digging before you dig it. Deffently the right stuff to find silver and some of the oldies. I think if you do the research.... get some old maps and check out parks thats may be small out of the way towns you will be halling in some impressing silver soon. One of the guys im hunting with is already at almost a 70 silver... and he didnt start hunting until march. But its mostly location location location.

for me has been a great detector. I also have dug a lot of trash in the beginning, but not so much now because I have applied what I've read in A.S's book on the Explorer and previous hunting experience with the Sovereign xs.......If things are slow at a site I did the signals that represent large pieces of copper or brass and take it home for recycling....The key to the Explorer for me is the SOUND, when you learn the sounds in pinpoint and the normal hunting mode your recovery rate of good finds will increase quite a bit.

NebTrac......good guess. It is exactly as you described. :please: Now which piece came from a Model A or T ??

As for how I dug the sickle part? I am pretty much digging anything that screams in the upper right half of the screen..

We had a snowstorm roll through last weekend that left us 4-1/2 inches. It is just about all gone already...a few more warm days should take care of it. Then it will be time to crank it up and start hitting my favorite spots. :super:

I never would have known it was a Model T part. I better check last year's junk pile to see if there are more.

I dug most of that same stuff, including the Model T part, the last two times I was out ........My thought is..... as you are learning your machine, if you are not digging stuff like that .:goodnight:....... you won't be digging much old good stuff either ....... When you master the basics in Karate you have a Black Belt to show for it ...... . I'd guess when you master the basics with the Explorer you have about a half a pickup load of junk to show for it ....... :rofl: ...... I still have a long way to go myself ...Keep digging my friend, junk like that is part of the journey :super:.....
 
Man that is quit a pile Dave. You're gonna know your machine like the back of your hand. Last year I had a cattle lick tub (250#'s when full) that I had better than
 
Yep, I just finally cleaned out the back of my truck today and I threw buckets of stuff just like that away.I'd say you are on the right track and doing what you are supposed to.
 
Dave, don`t think for one second that I don`t dig plenty of crap. But as I listen to this machine I learn more and more and the feedback that the id screens give is invaluable. It`s just almost a gut feeling to dig or not. Some pretty cool stuff comes out sometimes, especially the coin shaped objects. HH
