Try that thing during the summer in the clay soil I hunt in. Bet it wouldn't get down 3" before it bogged down. Another minute or two and the battery would be drained.
 
regardless of coil type and size, overlapping sweeps is key to finding co-located targets.

IMO a lot of "small coil" finds in areas previously searched with larger coils were there for the bigger coil to see if the user was using more overlap. Too often we are in a hurry to cover an area with stock coils. Properly used, 8" to 10" concentric and DD coils will hit co-located targets that the smaller coils miss due to the smaller signal response but ya gotta use lots of overlap to get 'em.

At fringe depth DD coils have a small area of response just like a concentric. In co-locate scenerios DD coils require as much overlap as concentrics. The length (blade shape) of a DD pattern creates masking nearly as much as the 'round' field of the concentrics.

You just have to hunt and go with your gut you can't get it all but you have to keep moving till you find a hot spot then take your time.
 
A dentist a few years back must to have had a similar device.......I can remember it like it was yesterday.....He was new and young......didn't take long to find a good one though......shew.
