Why, I Will Never Get Rid Of My SE Pro

RLOH

Well-known member
I have tried every detector made and while trying them, I have kept my SE Pro. It sometimes sits idle while giving these new ones their turn. I can let the SE sit for months and when I pick it up, it is like I never stopped using it. I have been using an Anfibio Multi for most of the spring and have had some good days with it. It is as deep or deeper than the SE, but I dig way more trash with it. In all fairness, I am still learning it.

Two days ago I broke out the SE and decided to hit the banks surrounding an older ball field. I have hunted this spot many times and I always find something and yesterday was no different. I am hard of hearing and I like some degree of modulation so I run may gain at 8. I have what I consider the absolute best phones going(Grey Ghost Ultimates) and I can hear the whispers. Yesterday I started finding wheat pennies on this bank and all were 8 to 9 inches deep. Bare whispers of signals. I like modulation because I will know something is very deep and at gain 8 these deep coins were repeatable whispers. I ended up with 13 wheat pennies, but no silver. Today I went back and hunted the bottom of this bank. The first two finds were both mercury dimes and both were deep. Again 8 inches plus. I know there are people who think us die hard Explorer guys exaggerate our coin depths, but if you are good with any Explorer, these depths are quite common.

I have hunted four straight days and I am sore and tired. Today, I ran out of gas after two hours. I did find a deep no date buffalo so it was a pretty decent day. My SE Pro is in very good shape and I plan to keep it that way. I have seen a couple of them sell for under 400 bucks and they are a steal at that price.

Hey RLOH , that is great achievement that many detectorist never have !! That is completely understanding and knowing how to apply any changes needed to get optimum results. It’s confidence in knowing you don’t have to have the newest detector or your missing something. I feel the same way with Fisher CZ s . Don’t get Me wrong , as I do try newer Detectors. That’s how I gauge the performance of new offerings from other manufacturers. It’s easy to find quantities, but I would rather find the Quality finds (old) stuff . HH Tony

As I have said over and over again. New isn’t always better.
When the Minelab Explorer XS first came out it was the biggest game changer I have ever seen on the forums as far as finds increases go.
Not to mention my first had experience witnessing so called hunted out places coming alive due to the XS‘s ability’.
I am lucky to have got on the band wagon as soon as the XS first came out.(y)

Mike, I too bought one of the first XS's when they came out. I remember people on the forums telling me "all of a sudden it will come together". I struggled for three or four weeks and then it happened. At an old village square I made one pass from the gazebo and dug a seated dime at 8 inches. Just feet away, I dug a barber dime. That morning I missed having four by a roosie. I am with you on the FBS. It was probably the biggest thing that I have witnessed. Do you remember looking at the Explorer finds. People were so skeptical that they were calling these Explorer experts fakes.

Ray-----I can sure relate to that.-----I to purchased an early XS when they first came out.------It got me sooo frustrated! :)------I can remember finally just setting at a picnic table in an old park my wife & I was hunting doing everything I could think of trying to figure the thing out.----This went on for some days and then FINALLY the "light bulb" truly came on---more & more great finds started coming in.-----My wife was running a DFX at the time & it was a good thing.-----Can you imagine what it would have been like if I had of purchased us both a XS right off the bat!----It would have been like the blind trying to lead the blind! :)------By the time I got proficient with it we got her one also and I could help her in learning it--everything was great from then on--her silver finds went through the roof.-----Since then, we have had every one of the FBS detectors in their progression.---Currently have the Etrac & CTX---nothing like those FBS machines for "silver killers".---------Del

My E-trac follows me around.. think it’s cursed.. every time I jump out of truck.. it jumps in my hand.. good thing the other detectors aren’t Jealous.. they might get together and attack the E-trac.....E-trac has to watch out for that 800 .. sneaky little dude!

Yep, I remember as I have been on here since forever. Guys like GOLDDIGGER (R.I.P.), Mike Moutray, Big Rick etc etc.
As far as getting used to the machine to me it’s a dedication thing. You gotta use it day after day year after year to master it.
My son bought a new Equinox 800 but, I think he regrets spending less money and picking up a nice used SE-Pro.
He has used both and did quite well using the Explorer line over the years.

Took my se pro out a few nights ago to a churchyard I've pounded for a few years. Trash to coin targets dug . All coins are deep there, and the SE is a nickel hog too.

Hey RLOH. We are similar in that I too, bought an Explorer XS when they first came out, and used it for nearly 20 years. They were, and still are, a great machine. Early last year I bought an Anfibio Multi and have made some nice finds with it, at places I could no longer find anything with my Explorer. I too, dig more trash with the Anfibio, but by doing so, I occasionally end up with a pleasant surprise, that I probably would have passed up with the Explorer. If I'm in a really trashy area, using my concentric coil seems to really help in sorting out some of the trash. I loved the Explorer, but after using the Anfibio, I don't know how I swung that Explorer all day, as it is so much heavier. Whatever the case, I don't think we will ever top the success we enjoyed in the early days of the Explorer.

What is your usual coil to use with your Explorer?
