What do you guys rate as your top wish list find ?

ive been lucky enough over my 30 years detecting to have found 3 gold coins, but my massive goal is to find a gold roman coin .
if that day comes, that’s the day I pack it all in and retire happy hahaha

Need I say more?

Not gold, but this is my Roman Carus (282-286) coin I found.
Right coin is a stock photo, left and center photos are of my coin, never cleaned.
Good luck on finding a gold Roman coin. May the ring of gold be in your ears and its glitter in your plug.

I agree... To find a 2000 year old GOLD Roman coin would be the pinnacle of metal detecting. Period..! You stand a better chance living in the UK. Can you detect the many Roman forts in the UK..?

No, they are all scheduled protected sites, the fields that may be around the sites arnt though , as long as you’ve got permission from the land owner your free to detect them .
i live close by Hadrian’s wall, but I can’t see many slaves having a gold coin to lose lol

that gold 20 bucks is stunning , have many been found by detectorists ?

The entire length of Hadrian wall must have some loopholes..! I think the Romans had small forts about every 1-ROMAN mile. I bet those Roman guards watching the slaves were gambling and placing bets every night with silver and copper Roman coin. The centurions we're doing the same thing, but maybe with a gold coin here and there.

Carus was about 2" deep in a grape vineyard. Found while I was still in the Navy.
