A little long winded but bear with me.
Am retiring my explorer XS, had it over 15 years and it's never let me down (software Dec 99)
Over the years I've run other machines some good some bad some terrible, but never had an etrac.
Had the CTX but had to let that go as separations don't come cheap, very nice machine, but is more than I really need.
Nox? Didn't gel with it.
To get to it, will the etrac let me hunt like I do with the XS, that is wide open and conductive tones, don't need fancy discrim programs, or number ID, just thinking about newer software.
Thanks
Gaz.

read all the etrac forum, etrac class room, and explorer forums.... that should get you what you want to know.

Might consider getting Andy S's Explorer/Etrac handbook-- he describes the differences and similarities of both.

We'll after watching as many videos telling me why not to do something, that a previous video had said was the best settings I've given up, am going to start off with an open screen, 4 tones conductive.

with experience using the ctx and the explorer xs ...the etrac should be a breeze for you to master.

Everybody has their fav detector and programs. Every fisherman has his fav lures and methods. Every hunter has his fav caliber/gauge. It isn't what some youtuber likes, it is what you like.

Nothing wrong with an open screen-- I do that all the time.

It is kind of like fishing....you can't just pull up to any place on the water and throw your line in and expect a full stringer.
If there are 50 people standing shoulder to shoulder fishing an area then why are you out in the middle of nowhere trying to catch a fish ?
If you walk by a park and see people gathering in one spot all the time for picnics , watching ball games ...ect.....they have probably been doing it for years so why hunt somewhere else?
And you have to have a coin pattern set up that works for you.....If those 50 people fishing shoulder to shoulder are using worms , don't use minnows. Don't take a baseball to a basketball count to shoot hoops!
Match the pattern to the finds from the area you are hunting....Don't expect a large cent from a park built in 1990. Research/Timeline/experience/equipment/PERMISSION.
