Who is this K9WG guy and why is he here?

Well, I just purchased my first detector and wanted to introduce myself. I live in the beautiful city of Greenfield Indiana about 20 miles East of Indianapolis. I have been an Amateur (Ham) Radio operator since 1977 and enjoy everything electronic/technical. I work for a major pharmaceutical company specializing in diabetic therapies. I am excited to start MD and see what I can find here in the county. - Rich

Welcome from another HAM (W4DBX)

Well, I figured I would dig up another Ham (pun intended). Are you active and if so what bands? I have been getting into the Yaesu Fusion lately but like the digital HF modes also.

Nice to meet you. I am active on all bands from 160 meters through 70 CM. Just started trying Fusion on 70 CM (in the learning process). Between Digging for the hidden, Panning for Gold, working on HAM equipment and making antennas, I have a busy, fun Day. I previously owned and operated Super Radio and Electronics and now have retired, hoping to Dig more and have Fun.

Welcome to Find's Treasure Forums Rich... We might have to be asking you questions soon around here...

G..

Right now I’m on 2 meter, my son has my hf radio down at his house, I don’t have room to set up in mine. I do have general and hope my circumstances change a bit so I can get more active.

Rich, A Big Welcome to You to the Finds Treasure forum from Georgia. Best of luck to you in your new hobby of metal detecting.

I spent many a year on 2M to and from work. First rig was a Regency HR-2A... Hope you get on HF soon ;)

Thanks for the welcome. The wife already thinks I am mad (but after 40 years she already probably has a pretty good idea that I was...)

Welcome to the hobby. N4RBZ here. Been fooling around with the satellites and 10 meter lately. 73
Satellites sound like a lot of fun. I "played" around with commercial satellites professionally for a few years. Is 10 meters opening? I bought (probably the last one in Indiana) a Radio shack HTX-10 back in 2003. Worked the world on that little 25 watt rig.

We had some early afternoon 10m openings to South America from SC a couple of weeks back. May have even been open in the last couple of weeks, but I have been to tied up with other stuff to even turn a radio on lately. I've made a couple of 4000 mile plus contacts with my HTX-10 recently,, just goes to show that 25 watts will reach out there when conditions are right. Love that little and simple radio.

I just got an Icom IC-740 working,, reckon it's time to upgrade to a General once they start having exams locally again.

First xmtr was a EICO 720 (kit). Had one crystal for 40 meters and a Hallicrafter S-38c rcvr. Ant. was a dipole cut for who knows what. It worked but I don't know how. Sure wish I had the 38c back. Have no idea what happened to it. My Dad used it to listen to "Hawaii Calls" transmitted from Honolulu late at night. He was stationed at Fort Kamehameha (Oahu) '30 -'32. 16" coast artillery guns. A 2,000 # shell was good for about 20 miles if I remember correctly. That could ruin your whole day. Nostalgia.
