New multi frequency machine

Thanks to 757Relics for posting the video link. Very good to know that they will get it out this year. Personally it's all I wanted to know. I might and probably will postpone the purchase of a Nox now that I know this. I'm looking forward to having one in my hands by next fall and I sincerely hope it trounces the Nox in more ways than one.

I hope it comes with an 8” round DD like the sp22 just actually has awesome performance like a DEUS 9” coil.

Being able to change out the battery is a big plus. Hope there are more pleasant surprises. Video also said a "different" kind of coil than the Simplex. There will be a lot of speculation about what the coil size and shape will be.

maybe a battery from rnb for extended detecting time?

I m well outfitted now, and the ONLY detector I have any interest in this year is the Nokta / Makro SMF. I am excited as I await to get one in my hands as I believe it will be what Dilek said. A new model with some very good features, selectable frequency, user-changeable battery, and in a comfortable package. Easily competing with any of the upper-end models we have today.

My guess is it will establish a new level for others to try and compete.

Never had a Nokta Makro but that might change depending on what this one looks like. I’m pretty well outfitted these days so if I want one I might have to sacrifice something in the arsenal to secure it, especially if the msrp is anything close to a Nox 800.

Sorry to hear you haven't tried one of the really good Nokta / Makro devices. I got their FORS CoRe in-hand in January of 2015 and was immediately sold on their build quality and, above all, their in-the-field performance. Even today their 12 kHz Simplex + hols its own for many applications to complement their FORS Relic, which is my favorite tool to grab when Relic Hunting the very dense iron contaminated sites.

Oh, there re other makes and models on the market that are also very good detectors and appeal to many avid enthusiasts for their wants and needs, but knowing the effort Nokta / Makro outs into engineering, there is no doubt in my mind that they are going to bring out a SMF model, at a price close to the EQ-800, that will be a well-received and very possibly set a new high-mark for others to strive for. As I stated, it is the only model I anticipate acquiring this year.

I think you are making a wise choice about not buying an equinox. I have 2 of them and really enjoy hunting with them, but. You know the quality issues.

Weight is also a big issue no more than 3lbs and waterproof

If the new SMF they introduce does compete well with the Nox but blows it away in terms of build quality , and is also lighter, collapsing and carbon fiber lower shaft and truly waterproof- then it will not be long before we see 2nd generation Minelab equinox with some kind of technological edge that will bring the focus back to them. Minelab won’t play second to

I had a Simplex on preorder but canceled. The only other N/M I came close to getting is the Anfibio. Might not be able to pass up this new machine. Hope it’s priced more like the Anfibio single frequency or a Nox 600.

Either way we the customer should benefit from the technology. I'll give Nokta/Makro a shot at a SMF at a fair price. Maybe then, Minelab will improve their quality in future machines.

We can benefit if Nokta / Makro offer comparable or better performance and setting features than Minelab's Equinox 800, and at a competitive price. However, the biggest 'quality' issue I have noted with the ML EQ-800 has been with small coil performance, dealing with coin 'stacks' on in-contact 'clusters' or 'clumps' of coins, and we can't ignore all the complaints we read about on different forums related to Eq-600's & EQ-800's that leak ... sometimes often and even after factory servicing.

I mention this because I am certain there have been 'leakage issues with some of the Nokta / Makro "waterproof" models as well. Personally, even though I have Simplex + for days I might be caught in a heavy rain, or when I am working the shallow water area where I wade at a beach to ±6" or so, I am not a water hunter. I do not need, or care to have, a 'waterproof' detector, and I don't believe most avid hobbyists do, either. Those are special application needs. Most of us would be just fine with a land-based detector that might be rain-proof but not submersible waterproof, which would also cut down on some of the detector's weight a little. So I would like to see some land-based offerings from Nokta / Makro as well, to fill any gaps or take the place of their FORS CoRe, FORS Relic, Racer, Racer 2 or Impact models.

Good points Mote. I guess I am in the minority then because about half the year I'm in a lake or stream or near a beach searching for targets. I'm sure Nokta/Makro will make an updated technologically, land use detector soon after the SMF is released. So my vote for the SMF would be a true waterproof machine with the updated features they are suggesting.

If this detector is everything they say, high quality and light - and if we can get a small CC coil, I'd sell everything else and get it!

I have no doubts about their build quality, or that their SMF entry won't be a true performer. But I am in agreement with you on have a smaller-size search coil, such as a 5" round, be it Double-D or Concentric, but they really need to have a good 7" Concentric coil like they do for the Racer/Racer 2, Impact, Multi-Kruzer and Anfibio Multi. They should also make their nice 5X9½ DD and round 11" DD, and perhaps one or two extra, but PLEASE give us a 5" of some type and a round 7" Concentric.

This one could be my first Nokta Makro, but I’m going to try hard to avoid getting one before the user reports start coming in. Especially if it’s priced above $700 which it likely will. I’d liquidate at least one of my 5 machines cause I’m kind of maxed out and can’t easily justify another purchase otherwise. There will almost certainly be a sizable pre order backlog on this new one
