NOX helped me get lucky

Today after babysitting two grandsons for a few hours - something made me rush home and hit my hunted out park.
When I got there I told myself to hunt for nickels and hope for a quarter, typical coin shooter that I am.
Well I get a feeling to hunt around the path going towards the swing park. The ground slopes down on the way to the entrance of the swing park. I get a few coins but nothing cool. So I follow that path around a pine tree going towards the right side of the tree. I get a wheat cent at five or six inches that rang up 27/26 but not solid it jumped a bit. Next I get a mixed signal but included every now and then a high number but only in one direction. I took a chance and get a large piece of iron. I put the pinpointed back in the hole and get another signal. Out comes the second piece of iron nail or bolt, short but heavy like the first. I try the pin pointer again and get another signal. I couldn’t believe it, a 1928 S Standing liberty quarter, holy cow….I am very happy to say the least. Really happy I get this from this hunted out park, no brag at all, just happy and very surprised at the same time.

pictures might be blurry - I was too excited to get a better photo

Awesome SLQ!! That coin has been safely hidden until the equinox and 6” coil came through! Great write up and description of what you experienced 👍

Story reminds me of clearing out rusted or burnt iron nails out of my plug to find a Peace Dollar at the bottom. Great minds run in the same gutter (or plug) as my Dad used to say.

Thank you Ronstar, glad I brought back a Terrific memory.
I am still looking for my first silver dollar, congratulations again, very cool find!

Don't you know you aren't supposed to dig unless it sounds good in all directions? You broke the rules. (Being sarcastic)
Good dig!

Jay hop, that’s funny I broke the rules.
When I worked they called it ‘Thinking out of the Box’……ha ha ha

Pulling out that nice quarter next all of that iron was really cool. I wonder how many times it was passed over by other treasure Hunters
Fast draw , thank you.
Who knows, probably many detectorists. I know I have been over that spot with many different detectors.
I surmise the SLQ was below the two rusted iron bolts. They came out first and then I dug deeper because the pinpointed gave the alert.

I'm sure it was the multi frequency that made the difference, and the find

Fastdraw, your correct I was in Multi and Iron Bias is advanced setting at four.
Honestly I try hard when I get the higher number. Of course many high numbers it’s almost certain it’s a coin, possibly silver, quarters at least and some junk. It’s when you only get one or two high numbers that’s where I try prayers! Sometimes you get the bear…..sometimes the bear gets you.

Jay hop, that’s a good one ‘broke the rules’ . When I was working they said that’s Tony thinking outside the box again.
I think that’s what you do when finding rings!
Thanks
Tony
