Tell me your thoughts on the Legend 6" coil...

I have the stock legend and I am thinking about adding the small coil. Tell me how it does with the latest software performance wise in iron and trash infested sites. Thanks in advance!

I guess no one is using the 6" coil? 🤔🤔🤔

I bought the ProPac which has the 6” coil included. Im still trying to learn all the settings on the Legend and learning the sounds and numbers as well. Thus, I am walking a huge intramural sports field to do this and using the 11”. Not an area a 6” would be advised to try and do.
I do know I use both my 9x5 Sharpshooter and occasionally the 5” factory on my F75 so it made sense to get the 6” on this.
I seriously doubt there would be any difference in how to use it, just how you attack the area its designed to excel in.

I really like the stock coil in open fields but I also am what you would call a iron picker. I like hunting iron infested sites and picking out goodies from it. It's a challenge but I have a lot of fun doing it.

I like the 6 inch coil and use it pretty much exclusively in places where it works, curbs, fence line, against structures, ect. The stock is OK, but too heavy for my needs in sports fields, wide open parks ect. The Vanquish 12 in takes care of these places, simply because of weight. I am 68 yrs old and waiting for a medium size coil to take up 70 % of my detecting. The legend is my premier detector of the 5 detectors I have and use.

The 6” coil is quite nice! I hunt a lot where the weeds come up quick and it just a nice size to power through and get between them! It has good separation abilities too! I wouldn’t want to be without it! Seems plenty deep for the size of the coil it is too! The only real issue I see is on the rusty bottle caps but I’m probably just spoiled from the 7” concentric they made for their other machines!

Put the 6” on today for a hunt in the university arboretum so forest floor is low plants and limb debris. Hit on a old rifle case (late 1880s) and several lead bullets weighing at 395 gr 45 cal (33 vdi and full non ferrous, rifle case was 46).
Did manage a high repeatable 52 so dug that and at 9” thought I had a wheatie but the Indian on the front said No!!!! With that 6” on it was light and maneuverable and pinpointing was dead on.

Yes the 6" coil is very good in tight/cluttered places. Very deep for it's size. No knock issues.

Went back to the arboretum today, mainly combing the area for those big lead bullets and old 45 cases. All bullets were in the 5” range and I ended up digging a butt load of 50s era 30-06 blank cases. The cases were all 3-4” deep and rang in the 43-44 range. Problem tho, was the old style pull style ring with beavertail attached hits the same numbers. I might ax well save those and drop in the aluminum can sack, or wait for it……start a chain with them and see if I get it all around the room like we did in the early 70s!!!
Anyways, one surprise was digging up a couple 22 casings that were 7-8” down and a bird leg band at about 6”. They all hit 42-43 so dug just to see. Pinpoint hit them dead on.
Legend on Field mode in M1, Sens at 15 (for depth) in 6 tone.

You wrote "Sens at 15 (for depth)". Is that a misprint? I would think 15 would not be for depth. I'm running at 30 most of the time, and never below 25 so far.

Manual advises to set as high as possible where no major popping sounds are heard to avoid missing smaller and deeper targets. I think they are right about that as I’m hearing deeper targets (depending on location its either set at 15 or 20) but the VDIs are not always registering either. I’ve dug a couple targets with higher tones that do not register numbers but the pinpointer still locates and pinpoints and basically thats how I located the deep IH.
Arboretum is located next to the university television studio so there is some chatter as a result.

Just for giggles…….did you raise the sensitivity higher to see if the target would come in louder/stronger ?….In general and in a lot of cases, when the targets I hit are somewhat quiet, raising the sensitivity is the first thing I reach for…..Of course there is always the headlights in fog scenario…..Thanks

As close as I am to the television station the more popping and EMI like noise I was getting. It was right at 15-16 Sens that the deeper target hits were distinguishable from the other pops. The farther I moved away the more I could raise the Sens. I’m thinking maybe switching to a single freq might mitigate this more. Just need to go play more in that area. This is all new for me so slow and even wind the race!

Trying a single frequency is a good idea. EMI mitigation is the main reason they are available. Be advised that I have found 4kHz to be weaker on coin size targets than 10 or 15kHz.

Well I took the plunge and got the 6" coil I'll let you know when I get to get out with it how I like it.

I really like the 6 inch coil. I'm use to the 5 inch coil on the F75. Found a 1894 Barbar quarter and a 1942 Merc recently using the Legend small coil. Found in a area that the Equinox and DFX had been used quite a lot in that area. Quarter was only 6 inches.
