Put M3 into play…..

Tried to see what M3 would do in the EMI Hell Zone. It was the noisiest of the three. Everything in M3 is still in default so I need to make the other adjustments to properly make a comparison.
On the other side……. Moved into 4khz and as I came into the beginning of it it got a bit chatty so bumped up to 10 and that got me to the crossover point before it acted up and then back to 4 and silent.
Just keep pushing buttons until it gets quiet? 😂

Then you're probably getting "silient EMI"----Yah "can't win for loosin"!

Was that on a weekend or weekday ?
I wish you'd give that am radio a try and tell me what you find. 🙂

It was Thursday after 5:00 (they stop enforcing the on campus parking regulations).
Nobody makes a tiny weenie AM radio anymore……. But, I have been looking cuz that has me curious as well.

I bought this one. $26 buks.
Works very well for finding noise.
Tune to bottom of AM band where there's no station. You'll amazed at the noise in your home.
Loudest usually being electronic light switches.

I have small radios i have found here and there, couple sony’s that run on a couple AA batteries. I suppose they have them more here as hurricane supplies along with every flashlight you could think of,
radios that even run on crank for emergency uses. Try Home depot and lowes hurricane supplies and you will probably find something.
So how do you use one as a EMI detector?

Thats the sony ones i have. As i said they sell them here as hurricane supplies.
But they are actually really nice little radios for $20 and change.

Hand crank radio!!!!!!!! I have one with AM/FM and Ham radio etc. Forgot I had that!!!!!

Hand crank yes
If the power is out for days as it has happened and your batteries die as well you can hand crank the radio and it charges the internal battery to operate the radio and flash light in a emergency.
Of course if you have a generator, not everyone does , you can start your generator to charge and listen to the radio.
A bit wasteful on gas that would be in short supply just to power your radio but an easier option for sure.
I guess you would have to live in an area that experiences power outages sometimes for days or weeks to really get a idea of everything you go through.

Went out this morning for a quick hunt up on campus. EMI Hell Zone was in overload, never experienced anything like this morning.
4khz choppy so reduced Sens clear down to 10 before I decided it wasnt worth it. Tried all all three M modes, all bad. Tried Beach dry and wet, nada. Gave up. One thing I did notice that I didnt know and now learned. I usually lay the detector down on its side as trying to set it upright just doesnt work most of the time. If the coil is facing your plug and out say 12-18” apparently the low freq can make the carrot start vibrating when you turn on and go in the hole. Tried it several times and after I adjusted to make the coil face away farther it would stop.
I sure would like to know what the hell they do inside that big building………

Have the 6”, IT STILL DOESNT HELP!!!!!

Try that hand crank radio in AM.
Tune low in the band to where there's no station.
Remember. The antenna is typically running the length of the radio along the top.
Using that area like a gun sight.
The noise will Null/go quiet when pointed at the source. Pinpoint the source.
Also one end or the other is more sensitive.

Really? I only have one really high EMI area that I detect (I don't get out often or have access to many sites), but the 6" is virtually identical to the stock coil at this site in terms of EMI.
Perhaps it depends on the nature of EMI? In my neck of the woods, 6" is magnitudes quieter than stock. But I can imagine (hypothetically) something like a radar or VLF comms blinding both.
