Legend vs Manticore

Great point.
Comparing a Nokta Invenio at $5000 to the $1600 Manticore would be a much better evaluation with the same result.
One could purchase 3 of the brand new Minelab Manticore's , for the price of just 1 Nokta Invenio.
Makes the Manticore seem like a really great deal.
But again, way to soon to begin comparing brand new technology with old.
I think a lot of it has to do with what you want from the detector and how much you are willing to pay to get those specific features. I think, in many cases, a simple but good performing beep and dig detector returns a lot of performance for the cost.

The one question that has not been answered as yet for me is, if ML was willing to drop their patent rights on Multi-freq, then what do they have in the wings to replace it with that is incredibly revolutionary?

The thing is that ML did NOT drop their patent rights, they expired. They cannot be extended indefinitely. Some would have you believe that ML "let them go" and somehow others have "stolen" them. That's just not so.

Bingo ! Someone actually gets it !

If thats the case, the Legend is certainly NOT the best machine for that purpose, in my opinion.
Much better alternatives are available.

Again, it depends on what you need for where you detect. A good multi frequency can make handling wet salt sand easier and make it waterproof to a level most people go at the beach makes it match the job of beach detecting pretty well. Even though I have not bought a Legend yet, it seems to match that task at an excellent price point. Now that my CZ20 and HH Pulse have died, I'm down to three Excals and two Impulse AQ LTDs for beach and surf work.

Neither was the Legend i was told but you can’t custom make a detector so sometimes you have to get stuff you don’t need to get the things you want.
I was originally goinyto get the Nox 800 since i was a ML person even was considering paying $300-$400 more . But, waterproof was a big want and the deal breaker or seal depending how you looked at it was the notorious leaking of the equinox. During my research saw very experienced detector reviewer actually give the edge to the equinox over the Legend but said he will not go near the water with it.

You mean you should get the detector that has your wants and needs? Even if you are willing to pay for it? Did you know different people have different preferences?

Get the detector you want that you can afford.

Did you know different people have different preferences?
Of course! I've taken to the Impulse AQ and others have not. I still keep my old reliable Tesoro Compadre around for certain detecting tasks. To each their own.

I was being sarcastic. You have given an excellent response

I'm still good with 1 excal and 2 Equinoxs and the Legend. In a couple weeks I am fortunate enough to go to Aruba and try out the Legend and compare it to the Equinox there. Very excited.

I have used my Equinox in fresh and a lot of salt water with (knock on wood) no leakage problems. I did however break the coil ears on one, and the Legend seems to be a lot tougher in that area. The Manticore looks like ML has addressed the coil ear problem also.

so everyone is missing the most important feature, resale value. You pay $650 for the legend, sell it in 3 years for $150. You pay $1600 for the Manicore, sell it in 3 years for $1300.
Don't believe me, what did you pay for your nox, if you sold it what die you get. (I broke even after 3 years), never did that with any other detectors, of course I did get the military discount on the nox.

Well bob i see your point. Everything is relevant to what you’ve paid for it.
Are Are you saying that the resale value of the Nokta Makro brand is a lot less when you go to resell it?
All my Detectors I resold years ago were either Tesoro or Minelab but I’ve never resold a Nokta Makro so I have no idea what they resell for.
I have to add a couple things though as of right now I don’t plan on re-selling the legend but you never know but the more you have in some thing the more you have to lose for example Something happens to the legend I’m only out $600 Something Happens to the Manticore Im out $1600 Not to mention I’m out that much more initially out of my bank account

The cost of the Nox control pod is $350 to $400 with shipping from what I understand. Anyone paying more than that for either the 600 or 800 if they are out of warranty needs to have their head examined. Every push of the button is a potential last push with the heavy cost oF repair.. I'm not sure on the M-core or Legend if they are actually serviceable.

That was one of my points the more you have invested in something the more you have to lose. Not sure which detectors you can replace just a control box if repair is not an option rather than throw the whole detector away. I would think
every detector is serviceable to an extent as all the manufactures have service departments.
Just like any product out there if the repairs amount to a high enough amount then it would be better to just replace.
If the control box for the Nox is $400 as you say I would imagine for the manticore it would probably be at least $600 to replace.
Just throwing some economics 101 out there, don’t want to keep drifting away from the original point. If to me the manticore is not going to be really much different than the legend I can buy at least two legends for the same price of the manticore and still have money left over for repairs for a $1600 budget.

I prefer this one.

Yes why is it a concern to others from ML threads to bash on a Nokta Makro thread i wonder myself.
Imagine sitting at the traffic light in your BMW. The light turns green, you floor it, and all of a sudden you're easily passed by a… Prius. Some BMW owners after such "humiliation" go to BMW forums and rant how much better BMW is, cuz it has bigger cupholders.
