Old Minelab coil...

SovElite

New member
Hello there! Question for u all. i Just got a old Minelab coil without a connector. Got me the right connectors. A 6 pin connector for a Sovereign Elite I have. Its a Seasearch coilI have without connector. It looks like a seashell lying flat and heavy! What i need is the color connection a drawing to place where the color goes in what number for a 6 pin connector. Dont really want to take my Elite apart to see what color it goes into !! Thanks again Have a great weekend then! Brian

I haven't practiced drawing on the puter for this.

I hope you can see the pin numbers on the connector. Also, wire colors may be different, depending on the make of the coil. We can get this squared away.

Coinsearch coil
1)-RED
2)-BLK
3)-GRN
4)-ORG
5)-not used
6)-BLU

stock Tornado 10"
1)-RED
2)-BLK
3)-WHT
4)-YEL
5)-not used
6)-not used

Hope this helps. I have other coils mapped out, like the SunRay S-12 and a 5 inch excelerator. I wish I had all these coils.

Hello there ejudasf! Thanks for ur response! Looking at what u wrote. Found my coil. Has the light gray covering on it wire cover not the black one. Has 5 wires Red, Orange, Blue, Green, and Black the Black and Red wires are thick wire, the green, blue, and green are thin wires like gauges wires ya know . Red and black thicker than the othe 3 colors. Looks like ground and battery wire and then other 3 are for contols. Checking and notice is the same as coinsearch coil. Have that one too. so looks like ill try wiring it to the number u listed for colors and numbers and go from there on coinsearch to my connector. yeah tell me about 4 wires 5 wire 6 and 8 ! too confusing! Should do it the same way Whites detector did to their coils 5 wire plug on all of them! Ha! Oh well!

On the Sovereign coil that fit all the Sovereigns mine all have only 5 wire plug connectors and there is only 4 wires connected I believe number 5 is the one that has no wire connected to it. I never seen a horseshoe coil as they were on the Excalibur and were waterproof Minelab used on the early Excalibur that were hard wired and didn't have connectors . It is a weighted coil to hold the coil down so it is bit heavy for the Sovereigns. This is why the Seasearch coil don't have connector on it, but can be put on to use on the Sovereigns just have to know which wire to connect to which connector pin., the connector have the pin number on them.

As I said they should be 5 pin connectors as I have some on my desk in the bag and are CB plug 5 Pin Female printed on the bag. these plug are hard to solder on as it is small and have to use a smaller tip solder pencil soldering tool.

It's a 6 pin connector. I know it's Switchcraft, but I can't find it in Mouser.

I did find another possible source. Cliff is the manufacturer and its the ZC series. I just didn't dive far enough to see if the plug's notch would line up with the Switchcraft version.

The Picture you posted is a 6 pin connector, but is it for your Sovereign Elite, the reason I say is I have used all the different Sovereigns and everyone I have seen are 5 pin and not 6 pin connector. Take a look on your Sovereign Elite control box and see it is 5 or 6 as pin as this coil you posted may not be for the Minelab Sovereign series, or maybe someone change the one on the control box to a 6 pin for some reason.

Does anyone else have a 6 pins on their Sovereign ?? I was a Minelab dealer since 1996 until around 2010 and only BBS coils fit on the Sovereign line of detectors an no other coil will work on them.
Double check and let us know what you find out.

My machine is a GT, but I am sure I had some of these coils or the XS meter when I had my Elite. All the connectors are 6 pin.

I am going to have to check my coils too and my XS and the GT to see for sure as I could be wrong and dont want to give bad info. I know the ones I had here I just order were 5 pin coil, so I will check this out. I guess sometime getting old we get forgetful . I am glad you brought to my attention.

Hello there u all. Yes just notice that some have 4 pin 5 and 6 pin . My Elite has 6 pin and was asking for placement color number pin on that seasearch coil i have. Trying to track of which machine has what coil for each detector. Talk about Minelab own coils they mad and the aftermarket coils too. Whew !

You are so right.

Mine on my Sovereigns are all 6 pin like yours, I think when I put inn my order for new ones I thought I grabbed one of the 5 Pins by mistake and order 10 more of the same 5 pins and it is what I was looking at when answering . Sure glad I didn't sell any and didn't put one on my 8 inch coil I was working on.
I am sure glad you question it or I may never know I got the wrong ones until I went to put one on. THANKS

Rick
