Well, I'm back from the OBX beach week.... Theres many words I could use on how it went..

Well-known member
but lets keep this PG... First, the trip ( not detecting ) was great. Weather got better as the week progressed. Sunshine and low 80 "s wed, thurs, fri.
Now the detecting. If theres a word thats 5 levels below F'N horrible I'll go with that !! Conditions were great, ie. low tide areas were hard packed sand, not the soft mushy type that your feet sink 8 inches to. Detector operated wonderfully, if/when you ever went over something. PEOPLE, there was NOTHING THERE !! After approximately 15 hrs of hunting I came home with this shoot me into the next tax bracket total of........ 1 quarter....... 5 dimes......... 5 pennies.........1 nickel and ..... Wait for it.... 2 fishing weights. period !! No junk in the upper sand areas too, tho I really spent most of my time in the low tide areas.

More to discuss in another thread.

Sounds like you had a tough time Mark.
No expert here, but I believe hard packed sand is actually a good sign as apposed to mushy sand.
It means that not a lot of sand has shifted recently.
I have experienced both conditions but move on when I start sinking down.
I seem to have better luck in the hard pack, but if targets are not there, they are not there.

Felix.. for sure, Hard pack is what u look for, that way the gold is within the reach of the signal.............................. But your right, if its not there, its crickets all day long.

I think if you don't live around a ocean beach and are there for weather events it's just luck of the draw
OPT.. truthfully, the last 5-7 yrs down there haven't been good at all... Way back when, the good ol'e days, whatever you want to call it, 20-30 bucks in change was the norm. Now 2 bucks and your king of the hill.
