Manticore Tones

Odanscoils

Well-known member
Brand new video.

I'm not a big fan of this guy.
Though I'm quite surprised at tones on the Manticore.
And how much different the machine behaves.
I'm still a novice with the Manticore.
Especially recovery speed.
What do you guys and gals think ?

I think sometimes he puts out good videos and I like this video. And for me I agree on what he said about tones setting set and forget. For me I am not a fast learner with these newer machines and that’s what I have to do. Otherwise if I can comprehend the newer machines I would play with the settings more

Yea its been a while since I watched one of his videos. Not that the guy isn't smart but his online antics and tantrums got to be too much. Well I watched it, have to agree with him on picking tones and sticking with them. So much so I replicated 5 tone w/ break and pitch that I used on the 800 for the 3 years prior. I had a good amount of success after I switched to Field 2 5 tone. Rec. 4 Ib 0. in the fall of 19. Had over a hundred hunt that year with triple digit silver numbers. As far as recovery speed I started at 4 with the Manticore and my first several hunts was in ATG. The ground here was so dry all year I couldn't bring myself to ask permission to dig in peoples yards. That left the 2 old parks I have been hunting for the last seven years. I changed to ATLC 5 tone. I bumped up recovery to 7. The reason, pretty much all the deep silver is gone. I know this cause I met the guys who hunted there with their Etracs and 3030s for years before I got there. I did pretty well with the 800 w/6in. coil so I figured I would have a better chance with the masked silver than the deep. It paid off IMO. Only got out 40 times last year, 37 were in those parks. All but one of my 44 silvers came from the parks. Almost a hundred wheats, half dozen Ihps, 15 Buffs and a good many tokens. And a good many of those keepers were masked in one way or another. And with the 9in. coil I hit quite a few deeper targets, in the 8 to 10 inch range.

I did pick up something from the video on audio profile. I had to do a factory reset for some reason and on my next hunt I noticed something was off. I'll have to check it out.

Last year winter set in early. Didn't get my first hunt in till the last day of January. Hope to get out this week for the home opener. Good luck to you in 2026.

That's a lot of nice finds in a place hit hard by top machines.

I was actually surprised at the machines different behavior just by changing tones.
I'm going to try 5 tone. LC
And start digging only 30 ish and down.
I have maybe twenty hours on mine over two years.
Seriously disabled. Missing all day digs.

I'm trying to find a very nice gold cross I bought my wife many years ago.
1/8" woven wire 18 k gold with 3 diamonds across the front.

I'm hoping it'll be in the lower range.
Has loops at each limb.

The property was filled in.
Found nothing but a little iron when we moved in years ago.
Just started throwing handfuls of coins out just for something to do with my limitations.
Coppers, silver dimes and quarters.
And old nickels.

Problem is there's hundreds of targets now.

I honestly don't know where that cross is going to come in because of it's unique shape.
Not solid like a normal cross.

And I can't find one like it to scan.
Silver yes. But not gold.

This spring I'll definitely be finding a tone set I can hear and understand.

It looks something like this though solid 1/8" gold wire.
Three 1/4 carot diamonds across those two parallel bars in the middle.

I agree with him most of the time most of the guys who do videos don't hunt beaches especially saltwater if you do you know what a good target is
even though it sounds like crap! I dig stuff most would walk right by especially super freak he would miss so much stuff swinging his detector so fast.
And I stick to 5 tones also. LC on my beaches

Super freak boggles my mind sometimes.
How he finds anything the way he swings.
Especially in soooo much trash.
Sounds like a machine gun going off.

There is no way he can hunt in trashy areas the way he swings on the beaches ive been hunting its slow working
but coins are plenty the deep and they do not sound like a good target at all.

Had my Manticore for 2 yrs and HATE the tones!!!!! Have found lots of gold inc a $12,000 tennis bracelet a few weeks ago. BUT - Because of hearing problems I can only use Manti w Underwater Boost.
As for the wire 18k cross noted earlier, you cannot limit your upper range to 30 on the Manticore; dimes come in around 70s, quarters around 88 and, get this, 18 - 24k gold rings can come in as high as 90s!!!
Here is an OLD Table of number of gold rings found to Manticore VID. I put together last yr. These data are based on 40 gold rings and more recent finds this past yr, not included in table, drive the upper VID limit further with 22-24k rings. Although a cross, the loops may make detection more like a ring, IMO. But then again, the thin wire and low weight would result in a low VID. But I'm always surprised....

What do we think?----We think---"out comes the white coat"! :)------Serious though---I think he does make some good points from time to time.

The way he biased his tests over the years was quite irritating.
Painfully obvious to any experienced detectorist.
Well at least it does seem like he calmed down some.
I did go back and check my audio. I forgot to adjust the profile after the reset. The last outing had the tones I am used to hearing.
As far as the cross, I would say a VDI in the single digits up to maybe 15. A cross that thin won't give much of a report. Thats just my opinion. Also don't forget to use the trace, could prove quite helpful. Good luck.

Thank You.
Yes I'm loving the 2D screen.
Though owning the Explorer xs and the V3i.
I wish there was options to use those screens as well as the simpler 2D screen.
As least the Explorer's.
Preferably the version 2 split screen version.

Something that thin will be a shallow target, try hunting 11-19 vdi numbers and use deth mode , hope ya find it , GL
