Different Perspective – 20 Gold Rings of Yesteryear Equal to One Today!

That was before the RTG founder passed away ... his first name is escaping me at the moment. I did order a scoop on that day.

I believe his name was Kevin. I bought a 6" aluminum RTG scoop with SS lip probably 14 or 15 years ago (carrying it in my profile pic). It's been my one and only scoop for beach and water hunting, and I've never had any problem with it at all. I wash with fresh water after every hunt and it still looks almost new. VERY robust welds and great design. LOVE that scoop.

Seems like yesterday ... yet it is actually about two decades ago.

I've heard that life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer you get to the end, the faster it seems to go. And damn if my days and weeks aren't flying by, I must be getting close, lol. It's getting to the point where my days fly by so fast, I have to look at my watch or a calendar to remember what day it is.

Could have been one of my post on someone who found a crazy amount of gold rings during the late 70's into the early 90's. In my research to hunt the Chesapeake Bay I talked to several older hunters who did hunt back in the late 70s to the 90s, I've got many amazing stories and loved setting back and talking to these old pirates.. I never met this guy "Harry Fink" but had a friend who did and he shared pictures and stories of Harry's adventures thru the years.

Here is another, Little John who use to own a detector shop back in the 80s.. some crazy stories. And what is funny I got stories from other hunters that spoke of a guy that came into the places they hunted and would operate a dredge. And interesting Little John, just like Frank and Bob .. who had a detector shop in Glen Burnie would offer metal detectors on credit, the hunters would make payments with the gold they found.

And of course Frank Carter & Bob Trevilian, never meet either for Bob Passed in1998 and Frank in 2006? But I did have a opportunity to meet Franks daughters just as she had put the home place up for sale. Lots of great stories from her and information.

Over the years when I did start hunting the Chesapeake Bay (2014) I was Blessed with many great hunts but nothing even close to the early years pirates.. when they would use different mason jars mark 10k/14k/18k and would have them filled by summers end.

I knew Harry. He used an Aquasound religiously. RIP Harry

Yes, it was a common way of hunting back then.. and not using the cuffs.. When I first started hunting Sandy Point in 2013 there were still a few of the oldtimers using CZ 20s the same way. They would have the box mounted on their belt with just the shaft and coil to search with... like in the video above.

Can you imagine what detectors they were using in the water before these? One old guy I know in his 80s ... was a stand out. He used a Fisher CZ6 he had setup with the control unit on his sifter and a extended cable to the shaft then the coil. Steve Noga.. Some of his stories of the places he hunted and the amount of gold he came home with is insane. And he was the first in the Baltimore Washington area to start a metal detecting club.
MARS... He shared with me that when Bob and Frank would come to the meetings they would bring a bucket full of gold. I am hoping... this spring coming.... Steve and I can hook up .......... I want to get a interview with him and save some of his shared stories..

I was in High school then. He was a big relic hunter and those guys all used the Nautilus detectors with the dual discrimination.

Great club used to have the contests for each months finds The most silver in the month was always over 100 coins- crazy

Yes, Covid did the club in. Post a picture of your patch, love to see and share that with a few friends. Steve comes by about once a year and sometimes we go out hunting, the last time I took him out to Sandy Point he cleaned up on me and got two gold.. Great guy.

I really like the analogy of life being like a roll of toilet paper; and yes indeed going faster and faster. As a matter of fact, have to go back to the bathroom righ tnow and watch time fly!
