Minelab Equinox 900 or Nokta Legend?

Ted, that absolutely makes sense. ROI would most likely not be there. plus limited hunting due to whatever, weather, permissions or health related issues makes it seem like is another purchase really worth it ?Unless there is something truly ground breaking the Manticore will be my last machine. I still have my original 800 from 2018 as back up and have the Legend listed for sale. The last two years age and health have caught up with me plus the ground has been so dry I couldn't bring myself to ask permission to dig in peoples yards. So it was happenstance that sent me back to those old areas with the Manticore, otherwise had I had yard permissions I would have deemed them hunted out after using the 3 previous machines. I was surprised to say the least. Made it back to the one area once in Dec and once in Jan. No silver but on the last trip I dug a toasted V nickel (first coin for 26) 3 wheats and a Jeff. The trip in Dec, a Buff, an Ihp, 2 wheats, a transit token a clad dime and two Jeffs. I know a skunk is coming, my finds keep getting fewer and fewer but I know if a target is to be had, most likely it will be old and that is what keeps me going back. That and lack of permissions. Ha ha. Good luck to you and hope winter has not been to harsh on your area.

I have done quite a bit of research and hope to get 35-50 silvers for the coming season. Now here's a real shocker for the old guys here! I have been asked to go back out and play bass guitar for a rock band. These fellas are in their mid 50s and I actually hired one of them fresh out of high school in the late 80s! So never give up on your goals in life! HH! Ted

My 900 TID is spot on. You have to remember, there will be “less jumpy ID’s” on the 800 because the scale is much more compressed. What people are experiencing with the 900 is “variability” due to the expanded ID.

Tightest tid detector i have tried is the gold bug not very deep was not produced for that application . My 800 is fine like it quite a bit love the gold mode for relics.

It has been a long time since I posted on this forum. Life got in the way and I had not detected in a long time until recently. My Headhunter PI unit still works but on tis last leg. I have a Nokta Simplex but I am having a hard time getting it tuned correctly. My Minelab 540 works good in parks but I don't use it on the beach. I am thinking of upgrading to either the Equinox 900 or the Nokta Legend or Legend 2 when it comes out. Which one would be best for the beach primarily? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

With some time in the ocean, 25 years, Ive basically been a Minelab person. As with many old beach hunters, we have a good amount of gold stashed in a safety deposit box. Ive have been using the Deus 2 on the beach basically because its extremely light weight, My shoulder is basically shot from swinging heavy machines for a long time.
I recently bought a Nox 900 as a backup for my D2. Havent used the Nox on the beach, much, as I prefer the weight of the D2. The difference between the D2 is the Nox is much more quiet in the wet salt sand. I get lots of chirping with the D2 but the Minelabs are much more stable in the salt water. Not a Nokta person because it was a bit heavy. Used the triple score but not overly impressed. I know its not a Legend but Id guess its a bit toe heavy. I dont think you could go wrong with a 900 on the beach. Dont get overly excited about finding gold at the beach. Its slim to none nowadays. Unless you are hunting a storm which doesn't guaranty anything, either. I picked up a used 900 for $650 with warranty. Couldnt beat it for that price.
I'll save it for gas money.

As far as the Manticore, some guys swear by it and some say its not much better than a Nox 900. For the price difference and the lack of gold,

My Manticore has more than paid for itself I had the 900 also great machine but the build quality is better on the Manticore and
with the 9" coil its my beach machine

I dont think they replenished up in your neck of the woods !!!!! You have some really old dirt up there !!!!
I live at the Jersey Shore and they are replenishing every 5 years or sooner depending on winter storms. All the older stuff is buried beyond......
Hardly anyone wears real gold jewelry nowadays. You're lucky to even find silver. Gold is way too expensive for most people Back in the day, 'the guys' use to wear big honkin gold chains with crosses. Now if you walk down the beach, you'll hardly see anyone even wearing a necklace. Jewelry is no longer the status symbol for the youth. Its all about the PHONE.
ASk most beach detectorist nowadays and gold is slim to none.

Locatio, location, location. If you're in old sand or dirt, the odds are much better. i have friends in Mass. If I had the opportunity to find TREE coins, Id be out there night and day.

You're very lucky to live where you do. I use to live in Princeton. You think I could get anywhere near the battle field or the University...NOT !!!!!
Not everyone has the opportunity to be in an historical rich area.

For me my Nox 900 and Deus 2 will do fine. If it was there Id find it. But its not there like the golden days 20 years ago.
I got a late start but I got a good amount stashed in the safety deposit box. Yes, it paid for all my machines over the years.
Nowadays, not so much.
