A question concerning search coils for the xterra elite/pro

My wife and I have had better success with the V8 on our Elites around cellar holes and old home sites than with the V12 here in Vermont. I follow several FL beach detectorists and see they are using the smaller coils on their Minelab detectors now and doing very well with the smaller coils...

Help in finding Minelab metal detector

I replaced the battery in my Nox 800 for about $20 in 2023. Bought it on Amazon, changed it myself - easy. Many “how to” YouTube videos showing the process. It still had life left in it when I changed it after 5 years of heavy use. 5 years of buying AAs will cost you a whole lot more than $20.

Help in finding Minelab metal detector

I had an AT Pro that used AA batteries. I added an Equinox 800 to my stable, but was wary about the switch from AAs to a rechargeable detector. That wariness didn't last for long. I'd never go back to AAs. Sold the AT Pro because the Nox was just better. I'm using an X-Terra Elite with the...

    Manticore coil screw

I used teflon plumber's tape on my 800 coil bolt. It worked perfectly. My Elite coil bolt would slowly loosen. I solved that problem by making a rubber washer out of a piece of bicycle inner tube (nice thin rubber). I used a quarter to cut out the circle then used a leather punch to create the...

    Silver shortage

Yes, basketball courts with grass around them are good producers, especially at the basket ends. Add volleyball courts with grass surrounding them to your sources. Most inland (non-beach) courts have pretty solid sand and losses are easily spotted and “saved”, but hunt the grass surrounding the...

    Silver shortage

I expect that the finding desirable targets will slowly begin to decline now that almost everyone has a metal detector and those promising sites will be hunted to death. Detectorists will have to spend more time researching in order to locate promising sites in less traveled areas. YouTube has...

    Water outside of battery compartment

Sure. That's the best way to really clean off the detector after a saltwater hunt. One word of caution is when you bolt the handle back onto the shaft do not over tighten the bolts. Just snug them up. If you over tighten the bolts you risk damaging the molded-in bosses that the bolts screw in to...

    Water outside of battery compartment

If you seal off the area outside of the battery compartment where the handle meets the shaft, you may end up blocking the function of the pressure equalization vent - the small, white round Gortex vent near the battery compartment. This could lead to damaged seals and eventual water intrusion...

    Chasing A CW Camp

Add invisible dog fences to that list.

    X-terra Elite headphones and beachcombing.

You are correct, FW. ML80s will not work with the Elite or Pro. ML80s use standard Bluetooth, not the proprietary Bluetooth used by the Elite & Pro.

    X-terra Elite headphones and beachcombing.

I use waterproof headphones on the saltwater beaches because waves and blowing water put the wireless headphones at risk. The Thresher waterproof phones are great. As for wireless headphones, the Minelab ML85s are your best bet since the Minelab Elite uses a proprietary Bluetooth version...

Xterra Elite compared to Equinox 900

I own an 800 and an Elite Expedition Pack and can tell you the 800 lives in my basement as a backup machine and the Elite is my main detector. If you can get the Elite XP for $360 you should jump on that deal.

Don’t make this (my) mistake with your new Minelab

Page 49 of the Elite manual warns to not use any lubricant to the o-rings when replacing the battery. I'm assuming the same warning might apply to the Pro.

What are the differences between the X-Terra Pro and the Elite?

“Multifrequency” means several frequencies are simultaneously used together in a detecting mode. Example: 5, 10 and 15 kHz are all transmitted to the coil at the same time. The XTP's frequencies are each used separately, not combined like in multifrequency.

    Wet soil after rain

Use the same settings that you've been using. The main difference you will see is better depth and identification with wet soil vs dry soil.
