Liberty Ship SS James Bowie and the convoy PQ 17

The plate was found while detecting on an off the beaten path SC beach. The PQ 17 convoy topped the list of ill fated convoys of WW2. The plate had to have been once connected to a desk(?) thrown overboard by the crew of the Bowie. One of my very best relic finds! Those interested in history can...

    Low Country Partner

I detect saltwater beaches at night for a variety of reasons. I have enjoyed a fair measure of success. I've returned 12 rings to owners and ask for no reward in return. From January until the end of February I go inland and look for Civil War relics. The sites I select are computer researched...

Can't figure this one out.....can you? Notice the little metal clasp holder at the end. Thanks!

    18K Ring With Mystery Stone

Interesting night on the beach last night. There was a small army of people watching the falling meteor display while I was following the outgoing tide. Found this "John Hardy Co." ring with an unknown stone. Any ideas as what kind of stone it is would be appreciated. The new owner (my wife)...

    Diamond Platinum Ring

Found late at night in a shallow runnel very close to the edge of the dry sand.

    Coil life expectancy opinion needed

I use the standard stock 10 inch coil on my Sovereign GT. I hunt salt water beaches exclusively. Spending 3 hours in ankle deep water isn't unusual during a 5 hour effort. The problem for is coil life. They usually average about 9 months or less. I have 4 new looking coils that are useless...

    First gold of 2015

I noticed my 3 year old headphones were probably the reason my Sovereign GT wasn't picking up the deep targets like before. Got new headphones (SunRay Pros) yesterday and made it for the beach. Hit 2 rings, a junk bracelet and a heavily encrusted ring or earring now soaking in a solution.

Makro Racer: question and heads up

Really impressed with the videos I've seen featuring the Racer in action. One question and one heads up: What about a repair facility for the Racer here in North America...any information? That 6 month interest free financing offer from PP looks great. I thought that since I find about a...

    Weird night on the beach

In my 9th year of detecting beaches at night I've seen a few memorable incidents: Of course, there was a small army of fornicators over the years. They seem to prefer moonless nights. I simply turn my head and pretend something far out at sea has caught my attention. There were amorous males...

    CW Period Bullets?

A young man in Georgia is busy trying to retrace Sherman's march to Atlanta in 1864. He's excited about his new detecting hobby and was wondering if he had any "beginner's luck" with these finds. I guess that's the tip of a quarter in the picture. Any input will be greatly appreciated by him. I...

    Recent Beach Finds

After plenty of 5 hour plus efforts, the law of averages finally caught up with me. Total weight is 22 grams.

    Donors are back in town

Record amounts of liquor bottles and cans left by thoughtless persons on the beaches I detect might mean a record year in rings. Pictured is an emerald ring (found yesterday) and a garnet ring found earlier this month. They are # 5 and 6 in the gold is far this year. Last year at this point I...

    2014 FINDS

I've heard about Lady Luck casting a smile but I think she's been laughing out loud at my Sovereign and me so far this year. All of these finds came out of 2 runnels with the exception of the cushion cut 18 K flawless diamond ring. Found it on a -1.7 tide day in January. Got the 8.3 gram ring...

Stump The Experts/Win a Free Keg of Beer

Now that I have your attention, does anybody have a clue what the heck this is? The picture is front and back of the same gold trinket with strange symbols on it. It's worthy of Excalibur in the stone or the Gordian Knot as a riddle. I live in a retirement community filled with olden...
