Xy screen when targets too deep?

On a deep quarter in my mineralized with iron sand, the line goes mostly horizontal, which, according to the owner's manual is a typical signal from ferrite and ceramics. The line is quite thick, and has "squiggles" of various shaped lines reaching a small distance into all 4 quadrants. The length is dependent on the magnification level. There is not much accuracy there, just like the VID and tones. And like VID and tones, on shallow isolated targets, it is very accurate, and in trash, not so much. It is kind of fun to watch but in trash when the lines go all over the place and even off the screen, it makes me wonder how in the world a person could derive a VID with such chaos going on!
 
My. experience with the xy screen mirrors that of Picketwire. Beyond a few inches in depth and with trash in the area, it's not much use in my opinion. If the target is shallow it reports accurately. Given all that, I've decided not to use it even though I love the Deus II.
 
I much prefer the horseshoe screen. If a person used it all the time, they might notice tendencies that would help, much like tendencies in jumping VIDs, I don't know. I agree with the Colonel's opinion, and think the horseshoe screen has much more information that I can use.
 
It should be easy to see if you had a test garden to do your own analysis by creating a duplicate program with the duplicate using the x/y screen. I remember on the D1 the deeper targets the line would shorten the deeper the target. But I never checked this out on really deep targets for what occurs, especially where there is no tid or depth indicators.
 
I mainly use the horseshoe and focus on the audio. I mostly use the XY screen when there's lots of trash, such as irregularly shaped iron or lead, as it helps me pick out coins or other solid targets.

Like the target ID numbers, it seems like the accuracy of the XY screen diminishes with depth. At a certain point, you just gotta take a chance on deep targets.
 
I have tried it on the Deus 2, but I can't see a reason to use it as it doesn't give me anything that the tones and ID numbers don't. The ID numbers on the deus 2 are the best I have ever seen out of many detectors I have used. The XY feature needs work.
 
The X/Y screen is like all the other VDIs, they are only helpful to around 6" in regular soil. On deep conductive targets, I've noticed I get more of a circular pattern on the X/Y. It does show as small and I can use it to a small degree to tell me it is something deep.
 
I use of the X/Y screeen when cherry picking tot lots. Everything is shallow and the X/Y allows me to detect close to the metal toys and still manage to pick out a lot of the coins.
