This is very true. I haven’t tested it, but I think that the M8 would be the best if you’re interested in detecting chains and the same thing goes with most detectors, you can have a gram of solid gold and they hit hard, but if you’re talking about a gram of flower gold, it doesn’t work. There’s something about the way the residual electromagnetic field of the individual pieces doesn’t develop as strongly after your coil hits it like it does with a solid piece and the detector can’t sense that as easily, but a smaller coil is more sensitive to them. I made a huge mistake once with a SDC 2300. I called the dealer I got it from and told him it doesn’t work because I can put a sample of gold under the coil and it wouldn’t pick it up. It was about a half gram of crumbly gold. He told me to just take one of the crumbs from the bottle and just test it by itself and the detector slammed on it. Then he said now put it back in the bottle with the rest and try it again. Boy, was I humbled by that experiment!
