Been hunting the Chesapeake Bay since 2014 and one of the main gold rings I do find are Class rings, Most are dated from 1960 down. My favorites are from 1940 down. Details on the rings can be amazing.

OBN.. thats an amazing collection you have amassed over the seasons.. WOW is all I can say. The earliest class ring I've ever dug was a 1932 ( was 18 k ). from a nearby highschool.

That is an incredible collection, especially considering how many of those are over a hundred years old now.


The older class rings have so much more character than most modern ones. I would probably lose half a day just looking at the different school emblems, dates and engraving styles.


The 1906 and 1910 pieces really stand out to me. Finding something like that in the water and then realizing how long it has been sitting there has to be a great feeling.


Do you usually try to research the original owner when there is enough information inside the ring, or do most of these end up being impossible to trace?

Totally awesome. Wish I started detecting earlier. Those are pretty awesome rings. My first class ring was 1954 found in someone's back yard and returned 50 years later !!
Since I moved to the beach best I could do was a couple of 1960's. Since it is salt water, 10k doesnt do well. The copper leaches out and the ring becomes brittle and falls apart.
Only was lucky once at the beach to find 3 older class rings but they were broken. Salt did them in. Thankfully the Chessapeak is brakish and not too much damage,

This is only your older class ring colection. I cant even imagine was you TOTAL gold ring count is ???? Probably fills a gun vault !!! But you worked really hard and you deserve the spoils.
