Has SMF reached the depth of P.I. detectors like the Infinium and Seahunter?

If anyone says one is better than the other, I would like to know how they determined which one was better, the same or worse than the other. Especially as it would be quite difficult to set up a test bed in a salt water environment and switch between detectors over a specific, single target. I...

    MANTICORE M8 VS M9

In water hunting (mainly salt water) the only Manticore coil I use is the M15, The bigger the coil the more area covered. I also use the Excalibur with the 15 inch WOT (Wonderful Orange Thing). I also have 4", 5X7", 18" and a few other sizes for different detectors ATX, ATPro, Infinium, Fisher...

What's the best sand scoop + handle that you'd recommend?

My present scoop is the Extreme Titanium. Very light in weight and very tough for digging. My first scoop (bought in 1992) was Stainless Steel. Very heavy but Titanium was not available back then. Three times I had to have a new digging point welded on to replace worn out ones. The weight got to...

continuing thought on lack of beach finds......

I remember stories from a couple of detectorists that kept logs of all coin finds and each had highlighted finding their FIRST clad dime, quarter and half. Now we highlight finding a silver coin. How times have changed. I would guess that in time it will be rare to find a coin.

    Pelso Waterproof Headphones

MINELAB Metal Detector Headphone Adaptor Cable 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch for Equinox Series I used this connector by cutting off the 1/4" connector and put on a waterproof connector matting to the headphone's connector. I could also have just spliced the two wires and covering them with two pieces...

    Cornish Penny!

That is what is one of the best rewards of our hobby, the unearthing a piece of history that makes you learn bits of history. I had a similar rewards last fall. I was water hunting and found coin. I showed it to Google Search and what came back dropped me to my knees... It was a Brasher...

    Hard Case for Manticore

Largest size case that will not incur additional baggage charges, unless when loaded it weighs over the allotment. One case and done. Detector, Scoop, clothing, dive mask and every thing else fits fine. I do use a carry-on for necessities, meds, and things I can not live without. Pelican Air...

Prepping for a Maui beach hunt

I have no first hand experience with the Manticore on beaches with heavy black sand, most detectors do not do near as well as a PI. That being said I would take my ATX and leave my Manticore home. Lets hear from others with experience in the Black Sand of Maui. As for the headphones wireless...

continuing thought on lack of beach finds......

Carbon Fiber Travel or Straight Shaft for Xtreme Sand Scoop?

If you can afford it, buy both. I have the one and three piece shafts and have no problems with either. Note: If you are offered either right or left handed travel shaft get the one for the hand you dig with. Or bring some Gorilla tape when you travel to keep the shaft from loosening up from...

Well I just got a bit of bad news

You always have the other arm that you could "teach" to swing your detector. I did that while healing form surgery. But now I could swing with either arm if the need ever arises. The biggest challenge was to switch from swinging to scooping with one arm. I had the scoop tethered to my belt. You...

    Short hunt = beach gold

AH, to go back to the 70s and 80s when a bad day was one when you came home with only 4 or 5 gold rings a day. Now we have to contend with all the SS, Titanium, Tungsten Carbide that are worthless for scrap value. But the thrill is still there. Just now I have more time to reminisce of the...

OOOPS, I did it again.. Nope, didn't meet Britany spears..... Back from OBX

I am afraid I have to say the days of 100+ coins and 5 or 6 gold rings are long gone. UNLESS... Mother Nature helps and moves a mammoth pile of sand. She did that just a week or so ago. Two of us hit a low spot and pulled 14 rings (no junk SS, TC Ti rings) and a few silver coins. One day only...
