The TX coil has 2 wires, just like a loudspeaker. And like a loudspeaker you can mix frequencies and send them at the same time. With sequential MF (Minelab BBS/FBS) the frequencies are sent one-at-a-time, rapidly alternating between 3.125kHz and 25kHz. With simultaneous MF (everything else) a...

Does anyone know of / or recall a comprehensive operators book for a Whites....

When I was at White's I wrote several chapters of an "Advanced User Guide" which I intended to make into a book but never got there. https://www.geotech1.com/forums/showthread.php?26512-V3i-Advanced-User-s-Guide You should be able to access the files without an account but will need to...

Boss says something has to go ....

Those are mine. The collection got a bit bigger after that photo but now it's thinned down quite a bit and will continue to get thinner.

want to change my vx3 to v3i

In theory it could be done because the hardware is identical, it's just a software upgrade. But no one has the ability to upgrade it. Ironically the VX3 was designed to be password-upgradeable to a V3i (as Vito alludes) in 4 steps. But the password-generator software disappeared years ago.

    Kenneth Little of Fireball Electronics...

I knew about Fireball Electronics but not the man behind it. Thanks for the info. I have one of the Fireball-branded detectors.

    Vintage Fisher.

    It's a 1st-gen VLF-disc, which means it's 4-filter and you have to swing it fast. I have a 555D.

    Coin on edge

The reason for this is because the TX magnetic field is only vertical in the (geometric) center of the TX coil and curls outward and around everywhere else. This means a vertical coin has a peak response location that is closer to the edge of the coil. If you sweep in one direction you get a...

    multi frequency

Thank you, Monte. I may know how to design 'em, but you have far more expertise when it comes to using 'em. I tip my hat to you!

    multi frequency

Picket, I design metal detectors (FTP). Depending on how well its done, MF will have a number of advantages over SF. The first & most obvious is salt cancel. MF can work right into the surf where SF will give you fits. In the desert this will help with alkali soil after a rain. Practically all...

    V3i Advanced Users Guide

Problem is, I had a special detector wired up to electronically capture screen images. I no longer have that. I suppose I could photograph the screens but it will look cheesy. Also, I'm working on 2 other books so time is limited.

    V3i Advanced Users Guide

Yes, I wrote the V3 Advanced User Guide, largely on my own time. It actually wasn't an advanced guide at all, it's what the V3 User Manual should have been from the start. Anyway, I only got about halfway done with it. The "XX" does not refer to a literal "Chapter XX" but rather some future...

HH Pulse wire came undone. Where does it go?

tvr, I suspect the MOSFET is shorted. Can you disconnect the coil? I sold my HHPI a while back and I don't recall if the coil is hard-wired. If you can disconnect the coil, see if the battery still gets warm.

    New White’s GMX Sport released

A freq offset control allows very slight changes to the frequency, enough to get rid of interference but not enough to affect detection of target ID. Typically 1% or so. I have no idea if the GMX has this. If it does, it will still be very close to 48kHz.

    New White’s GMX Sport released

Can't figure out your question. But it's "VLF", not "VLG". And "48kHz", not "48Hz".

Carl-NC: Do VLF signals vary in depth according to target size and mass ?

Carl-NC: Do VLF signals vary in depth according to target size and mass ?

Todd, there's no simple answer. Unlike non-ferrous metals, ferrous targets can have either a magnetic response, an eddy response, or both. Nails tend to be magnetic, flat bottle caps eddy, and chunky iron both. With eddy targets size matters more than mass, with magnetic targets mass can matter...

    New White’s GMX Sport released

This is one of those gray-area-terms. In radio-land, VLF has a strict definition, 3-30kHz. In detector-land, it's given a bit more leeway. Generally, if it's below 100kHz (the old TR standard) and has ground balance, then I consider "VLF" to be OK. It's what detectorists understand. Quiz...
