What was your favorite or best find of the year?

Since there isnt much else to talk about right now. Most of you probably know about my 1793 Liberty Cap that I found, obviously that's the top of my list for favorite and best finds. But a close runner up would be that 3500 to 5000 year old copper adze or the rare 1840s New York Militia eagle...

Not one Cent.......Detecting in the foothills of the Catskills

I made it out yesterday for about three hours back to Ulster county. It was a nice afternoon to be out in the woods. [attachment 278253 selfieofmountains.JPG] The Catskills may not look like much now, but you should have seen them a billion years ago..... Anyhow, I gridded off some areas of...

Hours of detecting for only one Carson City seated silver

I guess I'll have to live with it. I'm just kidding as usual, of course I'm excited to find it. I wonder how it made it all the way from Carson City to a farm field in the Hudson Valley New York

CTX'r and fellow forum member mentioned in article about assisting archaeologists

Thought this was worth passing along. Angelika is a good friend of mine, forum member, and CTX user. Congrats to her for being part of this.. http://episcopalcemetery.blogspot.com/?m=0 Angelika did not dig any targets, but pinpointed and graphed them for the archaeologists to recover.

One hole, four King George coppers

It has been slow going for a couple of weeks due to sparse targets, and little time to get out detecting. I was able to get out this morning for a little while and found three KG II's and what I believe is a KG III but will have to look closer to see if it is a KG I . Anyhow, these coins were...

Nicked a King George this morning, found two mercs this afternoon

How can I dig about twenty five pieces of tin foil without bending it from the shape it was in for the past seventy years while in the ground, but then nick the possible KG.. Honestly the thing was so shot it isn't a big deal, it is odd though that the coin is practically smooth on either side...

Looking ahead, will better detectors or better methods of detecting mean more at the end of the day

Title pretty much says it all. What do you think? I believe that detecting technology will improve but, I also believe that we can build upon or detecting forefathers (and mothers) experience in order to help us find more. Personally I think it will be more thorough and thought out detecting...
