    Sounds From Grave Mounds!?

The sounds you will hear while viewing these clips were not audible when they were taken. They were heard for the first time when the clips were downloaded to my pc and then played back. Many clips were taken on those two seperate days but these two are the only weird ones. Toward the end of the...

Knife from the gold fields with what appears to be Chinese symbols

[attachment 294237 knife1.jpg][attachment 294238 knife2.jpg] As can be seen, about half of the blade has been worn down. No doubt this was from crevicing for gold and I'll bet the gold color on the blade under the bottom symbol is in fact caused by gold dust being rubbed against the blade and...

    Pioneer tool?

The blade on the tool looks to be at a 90 degree angle to the handle. It is on the back of a horse, mule or ox drawn old time wagon. Is it period appropriate? What is was it used for? Thanks Pete4AU

    Percussion Cap Hammer

Last week, in an old mining-camp-stage-stop-post-office in the middle of nowhere, just how I like it, I was fortunate enough to find this percussion cap hammer still attached to the plate. I was getting hot and tired and pissed off from finding lots of garbage. Then, in a few seconds, everything...

    Northern Calif Gold Country Relics

I posted photos of the double barrel muzzleloader a good while back while it was still covered with rust. I sand blasted it and it looks great. Sand blasting did not phase the white writing though now it has turned a light gray. Some have suggested the letters might be silver. The musket ball...

Dug up with horseshoes and blacksmith tools, Whatzit?

Found this in an area that must have been a blacksmith shop. Dug it out along with these 3 different types of tongs, 44 horseshoes and assorted pieces of metal. This little fella is 4 1/2" in diameter, 1 3/4" from ground to lip and weighs in at a hefty 29 oz. WHATZIT? Perhaps it was the smithy's...

    Eagle button identification help

Don't know if this is part of a button. Maybe it's part of a badge. Found it today (2/22/13) on the side of a hill while relic hunting in Nth Calif. One of the photos shows a dime next to it for size comparison. Thanks in advance for your help. Pete [attachment 257804...

    Double barrel muzzle-loader

Found this double barrel a couple of weeks ago in the California Mother lode very close to one of the Immigrant trails with my trusty Gold Bug SE. It's a muzzle-loader, 31" long. Would like to clean it to find some ID but it's probably too far gone for that. I don't know how to clean it anyway...

    Eagle mounting or button ???

Hello, This eagle has a small hole in the middle of the reverse side that appears to be threaded. There could have been writing on the bottom rim that is all but worn away. What is it? Where did it come from? When did that take place? Thanks in advance for your time Pete4au[attachment 198813...
