New to the Minelab Equinox 800

My Excal II is a back up machine for my CTX 3030 that is a back up machine for my Nox 800. In terms of water, nothing beats the Excal II for being waterproof. The CTX and Nox are rated to 10 ft but they're real ratings are more like 10 inches. I've drowned my CTX twice and my Nox once...

    2 PC CARBON FIBRE SHAFT

I got a Steve's 2 piece carbon fiber shaft for working the surf with a 15" coil on my Nox 800. [I use 15" for the coverage.] Really like the feel of the shaft as the stock shaft had too much play for me in the surf where I average 5-10 hrs/wk.

    Minelab Americas Customer Care

I drowned my 800 after 23 months, contacted Minelab/Detection center (via e-mail and web site) and I had a new pod in 1 week. This was 2 weeks ago (mid April 2021). Also, just bought a Steve's 2 piece carbon fiber shaft for the 800 - It's GREAT. He is happy to add threads to the end for a...

Minelab Equinox Detector Series Handbook - Andy Sabisch

The first edition is a bible for me (read x4 and hand written notes everywhere) and I have been using it, again, last few days setting up my new nox 800 pod/control unit after my first one drowned after 23 months. Forgot my original settings, how I liked it on the beach/surf, and Andy's book...

Back to WM08 Module from BT

Hey, I like and have used the wm08 module a lot on the beach and in the water and the signal is VERY clear. In water/low surf, it works fine until the pod is under water and it loses connection with the wm08. However, a bigger concern of mine in using the wm08 module is that I run w/o a...

15" coiltek on it's all way.

I, for one, am very satisfied with the 15" Minelab coil that I drag through the surf for 5 hrs at a time. But I do have to remember that when the surf is 2 ft or more switch to the 11" coil. I find about 11% more with the larger 15" vs 11"coil, mostly due to more and better ground coverage...

    Best waterproof headphones

Don't get the Koss; even with the nox 800 at a volume of 25 they can sound faint for a seasoned detectorist. Better is the Gray Ghosts, and they come in a variety.

This machine is making my other machines lonely!!

Psss, Don't tell any of the other beach hunters but my Equinox 800 has made my CTX 3030 wait on the sidelines as my backup machine and has forced my poor Excal II to stay sleeping in the closet.

I'm down and out after my morning hunt.

That totally SUCKS! I, too, learned the hard way to always have a backup machine ready at my disposal because more than a few times either the battery didn't charge fully, something goes wrong w the earphones/headphones, etc and it is bound to happen at the worse possible time - like when my...

    Found My First Gold Coin!!

WOW Congrats! Of note; I have found gold rings that range from Equinox VID number 3 to 21 with the lightest gold rings ringing up with lower numbers and larger heavier gold rings ringing up with larger numbers. Others have reported light gold rings in the range from 1 -3 and some really heavy...

If that happened to me my wife would say "time to change your underwear".

All beaches closed. Took-up kayaking and exploring the nearby (within 4 miles one way) spoiler islands in the Gulf. Identified several suitable for metal detecting. Many of the spoiler islands are covered in mangrove. Hope to find Spanish treasure dredged up when they formed the islands many...

    17" coil....yea or nay?

Had may CTX 3030 w 17" coil for 3 years now and favor the 17" coil for the added coverage. My coin finds increased about 7% vs standard 12" coil. Heavy, but built arms up to swing it 5 - 7 hrs/day in surf. But, had in shop 2x for water damage repair and afraid to put in water now because of...

How about a sticky post of favorite settings used on the Equinox - for clarification please indicate model (600 or 800)

For salt water hunting, I use Beach 1 with the Equinox 800 even when in the water (note; Beach 2 is recommended for in water use). Just feel like I know Beach 1 and it is weighted toward higher detection frequencies and is better at detecting smaller gold like, my favorite, solitaire ear rings...

3 Silver Chains in 1,5 hour.

Man, I think it is fairly rare to find a chain or bracelet metal detecting and to find 3 in 1 day? Magnificent!! The Force was with you. 2020 Gold - 20 Silver - 30 Coins - 1,866

Dig’em All or Dig Select Targets?

On Beach 1, Nickels are "13", zinc cents "18-20", copper cents "24", dimes "25-27" and quarters "28-30". These will very quite a bit based on coin condition and ground environment. Gold rings range from "3" to "21", from personal data, and reports have gold rings ranging from "1" to "24"...
