    Mode changes VDI?

Yes, there's a VDI discrepancy between Park and Field. And it's nonlinear, which is often a good thing… for example, some (not all) foil in Field reads lower, all other settings being equal, allowing for easier separation from gold (which in most cases reads the same in both modes). For example...

    Ok, I’m stumped

Put a small amount of something easily combustible (pyroxylin, gunpowder, heads from the matches etc) in the open end. Bend a long nail into L shape, so the longer side can easily reach all the way to the bottom. Put a heavy rubber band around flattened end of the tube and a short side of the...

    Legend in modern trash

At the beach I dig everything down to 7 or 8, unless I'm in a hurry. That's how you find chains and small jewelry. That's how you find Aaron. I went for the "worst case scenario" and used 2 flat pieces of cooking foil about 1.5x1.5" in size (VDI 10). For VDI 15, I used round foil seals (about...

    external battery

The utter lack of behind the head LL headphones (and bone conductors) is my pet peeve too. At the peak of summer and in the mountains, I want to wear my cowboy hat, not a friggin' shemagh!

If you want wired ones, both NM and Grey Ghost make compatible muffs… fully waterproof, too.

    Legend in modern trash

Every new detector goes through quite a few updates before it reaches maturity. They'll fix it.

    Legend in modern trash

Great minds think alike, I just tried it with Simplex and only then saw your comment. Yes, Simplex behaves the same. Programmers tend to reuse their code…

    Legend in modern trash

I've just replaced the high conductor in this experiment with a gold ring, and results are exactly the same. Including 4 kHz's newfound "magic" ability to unmask the target.

    Legend in modern trash

Both guys failed to test it with a 6" coil to make sure that it's a signal processor and not the coil at fault… So I did just that. And yes, a 6" coil is blinded by foil just as much as 11" one. It's actually getting even better than that: if you put a quarter that reads 50 between pieces of...

Considering a Legend and wanting some feed back from those that have used them

More like "Friggin' hot", "Friggin' cold" and "C'mon people, we supposed to have something between these two!"

Considering a Legend and wanting some feed back from those that have used them

Ok, your swing savings may also be weather dependent. I know mine are… :ROFLMAO:

Considering a Legend and wanting some feed back from those that have used them

Lessay we're covering 100' in a straight line, overlapping 1" for shallow(ish) targets. With a 6" coil, we're covering the distance in 1200/5 = 240 swings. With 9x5 it would be 1200/8 = 150 swings, so 90 swings less per 100'. By the end of the day, it adds up to a lot more time and energy...

    SMF

My miniDSO sucks at autotuning, so I usually have to spin the dials.

Considering a Legend and wanting some feed back from those that have used them

It will let you cover 1/3 more ground per swing while retaining pretty much the same level of target separation. I love SP28 on my Simplex, can't wait to get LG28 for the Legend (when they finally release it). IMO, the only advantages a round 6" DD has over 5x9 DD are: It's a bit more...

    People Planting Finds

When I'm out hunting and see someone metal detecting with their kid in "my" spot, sometimes I plant clad coins and costume jewelry in their path. Makes kids very happy… and slows down the parent, mwahahah!

    SMF

If there's not much EMI, you can just hook up your scope to an impromptu receiver antenna made from a few loops of wire and place it under Tx coil… that's what I did. On a second thought, if you have another coil laying around (no matter for which detector, for as long as it doesn't have any...

    Headphone/earbud question.

Legend headphones are stereo, if you pair it with a phone or computer. These are just regular low latency BT headphones. A signal transmitted by the Legend, on the other hand, is not stereo… or to be exact, it's a stereo with both ears having an equal output of the same signal. I don't think...

2 hours at the hunted out lake beach

That's my favorite part about "neck deep" on beaten up beaches – too deep for waders, too shallow for snorkelers. All hail Aaron! So you're implying that before Zuck there was a whole dynasty of prototypes starting with Auck? Makes sense. But Aaron is a spiritual prototype, not technological...

    external battery

Battery consumption depends on a lot of factors, so YMMV… but in my case, it easily lasted a weeklong camping trip. Haven't used it since, as Legend's built in battery is more than adequate. I see a few possible benefits to external battery: Battery capacity reduces with age. Replacing a built...

2 hours at the hunted out lake beach

For the first time in 15 (or so) years returned to a popular small beach. It was hunted out back then, it's even worse now – the beach itself is about 200 yards, and in 2 hours I bumped into 3 other detectorists (maybe there were more). After 10 minutes of finding mostly foil seals I've decided...
