I got bamboozled by a politician

Went to Columbus to hunt with an old friend. He had found a lot of old homes to hunt close to where he lives. He doesn't like to ask so he just did a search online and found out who owned the homes. We searched 3 old homes and didn't have much luck and the last home we went to was owned by...

Anyone else prefer TTF to multi tone?

I've found that for the sites I hunt that I prefer to use goes forever TTF settings over multi tone unless the site is very clean of iron. For me it is a lot easier to distinguish between 2 tones then just check the VDI numbers to decide whether to dig or not and I feel I do get a lot more coins...

Bad day turned out pretty good

Started the day out with a short in my headphone connection and since there was nowhere close to get it fixed had to hunt without headphones.Hunted 3 beautiful over 100 year old brick homes and just 2 or 3 wheats to show for it. On may way home passed by an old frame home that looked to had seen...

    Old token

These must have been very popular at one time. I found one exactly like it over 20 years ago and dang if I know what happened to it. Found this one today.

    I love my etrac

Out again today and found these along with a half a dozen wheats and a handful of clad. The large cent is the nicest I've ever found. All the others I've ever found have been very corroded and didn't have the green patina like this one. Also ...what a coincidence to find another 1917 merc a day...

Some times it's better to be lucky

My first old coin find was long before I even knew about metal detectors. In 1970 I was 16 yrs. old and spending a couple of weeks at my aunt and uncle's who lived out in the country. One day while mowing their grass I looked down and saw this tiny coin. It turned out to be an 1857 half dime...

A few interesting finds with the etrac today

All found at an old house close to where I live.

My limited observations on using the e-trac so far.

I'm still learning the machine but so far what I've learned in my type of hunting is #1- Almost all the old houses and schools I hunt I find it very difficult to hunt in multi tone so I use TTF. Its been too muddy to hunt any fields around here so I don't know which tone will work there. #2- In...

One hour hunt on a cold day

Hunted a small yard today. It was full of iron so I hunted in TTF. Found a few wheat cents and this rather unique item. From what I've read its from the early 1900s. Its about 1 inch long.

    Coil connection question

I've noticed ever since I purchased my etrac that when I change coils, the coil connector going into the control box is slightly loose? I'm wondering if this is by design or is something wrong?

    TTF question

Still waiting on a thaw here in Ohio. I understand the whole concept of TTF but I'm wondering if this works better with the stock pro coil or a smaller coil such as the 6X8 sef?

Noise canceling does it make a difference?

Did a search and couldn't find anything. I'm wondering if there is any difference performance wise between all the different channels?

Auto ground balance and mineralization question

I'm fairly new to the etrac and I'm wondering about auto ground balance. Is there a way I can tell how mineralized my ground is? I know with the old manual ground balance you could tell by how far you turned the balance dial. I'm wondering because the depth I'm getting on a freshly buried...

Seems like every place I look the price is $68. Any place cheaper than this? Thanks Bob

Another question about DD vs. concentric coils

I can now understand how the narrow beam of the DD coil can help in trashy areas but.... at the same time aren't you picking up more trash from the front to the rear of the coil because you are getting maximum depth from front to back as opposed to a concentric coil having a smaller beam all...
