    Today in the park

Most of the coins we find are only down 3.5 to 4 inches. I was using the 5.3 in the coin program, gain cranked up to 12. Silver was coming in at 83-87vdi,pennies were hitting 67-76. I dug most of the lower numbers too, just in case...but got junk.

Winter Games 2010, V3 vs. Etrac: V3 gets the Gold!

No matter what the age,or the metal, even though you are most likely correct,it's still a sweet find! Gold does usually come up as it went down, with no oxidation, corrosion and like you said,it just rinses off.I once dug up a $2 gold piece while doing a bottle dig, never even owned a metal detector...

First outing of the year, with new 5.3 coil.

I found that you can actually watch the Vdi's change as you slowly move around an area that has multiple targets and distinguish the difference among them,I've read the numbers and from what they were telling me it was dead on. I got three solid readings from a small patch,16 vdi,75 vdi and...

Winter Games 2010, V3 vs. Etrac: V3 gets the Gold!

Hi Neil, Interesting piece whatever it is. I don't see the "horn of plenty" there.A basket with fruit, but no horn. It looks like it has lathe worked background, something that you would see from a jewelers lathe. Are you sure it's gold? Maybe a very good quality brass?

Winter Games 2010, V3 vs. Etrac: V3 gets the Gold!

Hi Neil, Really nice find! They are known in the collector world as "Love tokens".Usually made from gold or silver coins and done by a jeweler at the time to the customers wishes.Very neat! Butch in Newfoundland

    Wringing truth from Ring threads...

Ring tones,VDI numbers, analize screen are only "maybe" tools. They all help in determining an item, but none are fool proof,or at least in my experience. With a lot of study and practice, one can get really good at estimating decoding what their machine is telling them, but its never 100%,we all...

    Whites V3 & Super12 Search Coil

Plenty of difference up here in Newfoundland, when using the Super12.The stock D2 that came with the V3 is ok,but when I finally broke down and bought the Super,it was like night and day...what a difference. I was going over the same ground and hitting a pile of silver that the V3 missed...

    5.3 Coil

Grass?....Oh yes,I remember that stuff...green isn't it? Spring is just a few weeks away,so maybe it will come early this year. Nice to hear about your test run with the 5.3,it sounds like exactly what I need for a lot of areas here in Newfoundland.

    Coil for high trash areas

I have been trying to work this area in a local park that was a favorite place for the servicemen from WW2 to bring their lady friends. So far I have found a few coins and the odd bit of jewelry or uniform insignia, but I find that the 12 super on the V3 has a hard time when there are numerous...
