    Some Florida finds

In Florida for a week. Heading home Monday. Not bad detecting so far. All water, kind of hot to sand hunt. Wife caught me in the water with the Excal and took a picture. Boy do I need to put different headphones on this one. My blue tube with the Detector Pro headphones needs the battery cable...

    Pondering an offer

Reasonable price for an Excalibur that has been gone over with new O rings and all. Once set up the Excalibur is pretty much turn on and go and they hold up very well. If it is a blue tube one, I've found the threshold to be slightly more stable in that series (which is a plus). If the "new"...

    Out with the cz 3d

Yup. Make it waterproof and have an option to make nickles sound off as mid-tone so one can choose to just dig mid-tones (gold range).

HELP !!! Looking for plastic coil nuts for whites small coil ( on M6 )

What I do for replacements is go to the hardware store with coil in hand and pick out nylon nuts and bolts that fit. If you have the bolt, take it to the hardware store and find a nylon nut that fits it.

    Gold...sell or hold ?????

Something that was a little surprising when we moved to South Carolina from Maryland is how many businesses charge 3 to 3.5% more to use a credit card rather than paying in cash. Saw almost none of that in Maryland. It makes sense because of the fees charged to businesses for processing credit...

    Gold...sell or hold ?????

There is a huge difference between people choosing to go cashless on their own and choosing how to do so; and the government mandating it and controlling the mechanisms. Both will reduce the coins dropped for us to find with metal detectors. The former is one of personal choice, the latter is...

    Gold...sell or hold ?????

There are other IRS provisions. Do a search on "IRS hobby deductions" and look at the IRS information. Seems to me there is somewhere on the itemized deductions form to put things. Ever since the standard deduction was doubled by the 2017 Tax Cut and Jobs Act, I got a much better deduction...

    Gold...sell or hold ?????

Under the provisions for a hobby ... unless you are actually one of the few doing it as the way you make a living. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-news/fs-07-18.pdf

    Gold...sell or hold ?????

I used a refinery. I found that shipping insured was not anywhere near as expensive as the return lost had I taken what was on offer locally. 95% plus at a refinery vs 75% or less of spot price locally. Keep track of what you have spent on equipment and travel and you can offset much if not all...

    Gold...sell or hold ?????

LOL ... do what every you fancy with the efforts of your pirating! I sold some gold when it hit $1800 around 2011 to buy some new detectors and not touch any other sources of revenue. I'm holding for now and, like you, am not in a position to need it in retirement. How is the shoulder holding...

    Cz3d

Depends on condition and what depth Tom says it gets on his certification. One clean and certified to see a dime in the 11 to 12 inch range will get more than one certified at less than that and if beat up even less. From what I've seen recently of detector prices, I'd guess the range for a...

    Calabash is back

Note how he is pushing a certain camera ... much like he pushed certain detectors and trashed some very good ones.

    Slightly unusual find

Found what looks like a French 10 centimes with a backing glued on the looks like it had a pin to be worn pinned to cloths.

    Outer Banks beach detecting?

What Mark posted ... National Seashore (national park) is a no go. If you pull up a map, there is Currituck Banks reserve that is north of Corolla that is no go and, as Mark mentioned, the National Park / National Seashore that starts south of Nags Head. I've detected the beach in Corolla a...

Is it worth fixing (Excal II)?

If it isn't already on a straight shaft, putting an Excalibur on a straight shaft balances it much better and makes it feel much easier to swing than the stock shaft. Light weight carbon fiber shafts are available as straight shaft set ups.

Is it worth fixing (Excal II)?

After market batteries are getting a little harder to find, but I see a NiMH pack for under $50 (from Nextbatteries) and a smart charger for $20 (From fortbedfordmetaldetectors) After sitting for that long, I'd suggest checking and lubricating the O rings. I'd say that it is worth bringing it...

    Black Sand

I agree that it depends on how thick and uniform the black sand is. Found same issues with CZs ... CZs maybe had a slight advantage but not much. When the black sand (or pink or red sand) get heavy a Pulse Induction detector is the way to go.
