Yet another wildfire, although this one is closer to home.

My dads been living at his house for 5 yrs. Theres never been a wildfire that has gotten close.... until this week. The fire 15-20 miles away and is not really a threat due to its direction, but it is massive. It started on Wendsday, and by Friday evening it was at over 50,000 acres. Currently...

Ghost towns in Yosemite National Park- Nature Notes Video... A Great Watch for you Ghost Town Hunters

Although, of course, neither of the towns in the video can be metal detected. Still, they are both very interesting ghost towns to spend an afternoon exploring, with great views. I can tell you from experience, the hike to Dana Village is a Strenuous hike, but the views you will see are...

    Knights Ferry Covered Bridge

I took a trip up north earlier this year to visit this covered bridge, which just so happens to be the longest east of the Mississippi. There is still a small community down the road by the same name, and the bridge definitely helps keep it alive. As you can see from the photo that shows the...

    Railtown 1897 photos.....

Railtown 1897 For such a small park there is quite a lot to see. There are literally tons of old train parts lying around, and quite a few locomotives and carts in various states of repair. HH

    A bicycle

This photo doesn't have much of a story like many of my other photos/ photo videos do. I took this photo at my aunt's house last summer while visiting and just now messed with it a little bit. I didn't bother to move any of the stuff around that was near it, and decided to take the photo at the...

    Photo Contest Entry #1

This photo was taken at California State Historic Park- Railtown 1897. This state park is located in Jamestown, CA and is a railroad depot that is still in operation. As you can see from the photo, the photo was taken inside the locomotive repair shop (can't remember the name of the building at...

Bobcat spotting from earlier this year.

Okay, well, the photo and video quality of this short video is not good, but I thought I would show it anyway. I was hiking in Pinnacles National Park (America's newest National Park) in January on an unmaintained trail. I hadn't seen anyone all day while hiking along the creek, when all of a...

    Got a new job!:clapping::yo::spin::smile::jump::hot::thumbup:

I realize this is a photography forum, but felt I would share with you what I have been up to the last few months other than college, work, family, ect. Last summer, after having worked in the fast food industry for a year already, I began to seriously look into finding summer work in the...

    Stop eating my Pine Trees!!!!

These cows belong to my father's neighbor, and are in a 10 acre lot the neighbor rented adjacent to his property. Along about 100 feet of my father's side of the fence are some pine trees. Every winter one or two fall down, but this year none have. As you can see from the photos, my cousin and I...

    Rent a post office, anyone?

This is a old post office in a semi-ghost town in the Sierra Nevada foothills that is for rent. The owner seems to have converted it into a house. The pink just gives it character. The second photo is just a quick snap shot I took of a cattle field nearby the post office a few hours...

We have a nice ( albiet small) group of photographers here:-) ...

And with the number of views each thread received I imagine our photos are shared with a much larger number of people than the replies show.:-) Here's hoping that this year brings many more great photos for our viewing pleasure, as well as those who have to come of their shells and join in on...

    Yosemite Wildflowers and Views

These photos are from my August camping trip. The photos of the stuffed fox, skunk, and owl were taken in an exhibit that was made to appear like nighttime, but with flash they came out much clearer. The last photo was taken while I was waiting for an hour for my breaks to cool down after coming...

    Old Iron Bridge

This one lane bridge in Northern CA is on an old mining road through the Sierra Nevada foothills. According to the writing on the top of the bridge it was made in 1912 by Clinton Iron Works out of Clinton, Iowa. Photos taken after a rain storm moved through back in October.

    Hardin Lake, Yosemite National Park

Come join me as I lead us (mainly myself) to a high country lake in Yosemite! This video contains a few video segments of me explaining the hike, but also a good deal of photos of the plants, views, and the lake. There is no music in this video do to the video segments explaining the...

Canoeing the Palmer River in MA

In July while visiting family in MA one of my uncles offered to take me canoeing on a local river. Of course, who was I to refuse :). We were on the river for about 3-4 hours, just relaxing and enjoying the wildlife. Other than a few downed trees blocking the way we had no trouble getting to the...

    Jenny Lind, CA: Semi-Ghost Town

About a month ago I was visiting family up North and decided to check out a semi-ghost town from the gold rush days. Jenny Lind, CA is located right next to the Stanislaus River in the Sierra Nevada foothills. As you can see from the photos, the oldest buildings in town are in a state of...

    A quick hike from June

Back towards the beginning of the summer I decided to take myself and my cousin on a hike in Stanislaus National Forest that I had done once before. This particular hike is about 8-8.5 miles round trip. It was a hot day for a hike, but we were under shade for much of the time and had plenty of...

Do rain gutter sluices actually work, even a little?

I have read quite a few times over the years that they do work, but am wondering how well they work. I may not be sluicing millions of dollars worth of gold, but I still want to catch the specks.
