    I've seen that video before but to be honest, I really didn't catch on to what he was doing. But now I get it. My approach from now on will be to disengage the horseshoe when I get in a heavily iron infested area.

    It will take me a while to decipher all that information, but I will. But to clear up one point... I was only getting negative VDIs with mixed tones on a full sweep of the coil, when iron was on. (NO positive VDI) I didn't get a positive VDI (with iron on)until I wiggled or hovered.

    I have just always done separation test with the iron on. Horse shoe engaged. And most of the time that's the way I hunt, iron on. What I found out today is that with the iron off I got a totally different ID than with it on. Like I said, I didn't know. And I'm sure I'm not the only one...

    I may get one later. I had one on order an cancel it and got the 900. It may be slightly better but don't think it's 500 dollars better from what I've seen.

    I would definitely get the 900 over the 800 if I didn't already have an 800. To me the 900 feels and swings better. Definitely appears to be built better. Comes with 6 inch coil. In one test I did it separated better than the 800. In one test there was no depth advantage but on another target...

    Thanks, I'll give it a try next time I'm in heavy iron. I generally use Park 1 since it gives me a more accurate ID on the deeper targets.

    I went back to the same site today and used the 900 again. I still dug some nails that sounded really sweet, even at F5. Again, very few desirable targets but I did find a large cent. But not in the best shape. Pretty sure it was in a fire, but it's the only sign of a fire I've seen at this site.

    I totally understand your disappointment. My 900 was shipped in the same type of box. But I'm almost sure it's not the dealers that pack and ship, it's the distributor.

    In my test today it did beat the 800 slightly on depth and by a long shot on separation. But that was only one test.

    I did a little more testing today. I matched the settings as best I could on all machines. Totally non bias, I just want to hunt with the best machine. Depth test: I laid a 4 and 3/4" box over top of my 11in dime. With equal settings neither the 800 or 900 could give a signal on the dime...

    Decided on the Equinox 900

    I just tried tightening the cams a little more. I did get it to stop twisting. The cam is almost touching when closed in order to keep it from twisting.
