My finds from Dec 17 & 18 while seeking silver coin #80 for 2014 :detecting:

Finds from Dec 17th & 18th. Wednesday 12/17 was perfect for digging at 50 degrees with some sun. Looking for silver coin #80 on the year I went to a park that has been hit hard lately by several detectorists . I met 3 different hunters there this year and we compared notes re what we've found...

Horsepower of the V nets the coin I've been wishing for all year:thumbup:

My 12x10" has a good null, it passes the RX 15 test. At low gain it hits deep as everyone noted, running it at 6 to 8 works well for me. I choose where I set it carefully and have the ability to really push it where EMI and trash concentrations allow.

    A Few Recent Finds...

Man, that is a great post! The little critters are your friends. I've been out west and seen what they do creating those "towns" of mounds. Here in the colder regions of the country we sometimes attribute coins and things getting moved around by frost heaves for what its worth. HH - Bruce

Horsepower of the V nets the coin I've been wishing for all year:thumbup:

Thanks, the weather here is unsettled, raw and wet or sunny and hovering around freezing or below. Fortunately snow is not a factor for now. I did get back there once after this post to see if there was possibly anything more from the productive strip where I found most of the silver coins, 3...

    New V3i on the way!!

I think I'm going to tweak mine to reject the ground range when I get chance. My set up is so close to Magic's.

Horsepower of the V nets the coin I've been wishing for all year:thumbup:

nalc472, I think there are a few factors that enabled me to pull deep coins with the 12"x10". 1) low trash density - biggest consideration 2) no EMI 3) I knew there were deep silver coins there from having dug 3 walkers and several silver quarters there since Oct. 7 from similar depths. 4) the...

Just wondering? About the iffy signals.

Exactly as undrpar said. Iffy signals are part of the sport, too many things to list here that can cause them. There are so many difference in detectors so like you already know it takes time to learn a detector. The V3i is unlike any detector, any Whites I have used in over 28 years - I like it.

Horsepower of the V nets the coin I've been wishing for all year:thumbup:

Watching the snow pile up today with the warm glow of a satisfying hunt under my belt. I got out yesterday to a lake bed I've been hitting in Oct & Nov as the water is draining for dam restoration. I put a write up in today's finds. Now since there's some activity here with some new to the V...

No haircut for me in 7 years - finally I saw my elusive Barber yestrday

It's true, I just grow it long and tie it back. Getting out yesterday before our first snow to get some detecting in. I've been hoping to get back to the drained lake that had been good to me. Swampers, long handled scoop and a hot tuned V3i sporting a 12"x10" SEF in an area free of EMI / RFI...

    V3i - First Impressions

Mike, you've got a great start because of your attitude, open mind and a test plot. I've had mine for three years and it's unique in its flexibility to be adapted to the hunt site and your personal preferences. The first thing I remember when I first got it was how great it was to change font...

    Ring #21on the year

The snow didn't amount to anything and the ground is a long way from freezing so I spent some time coin hunting in the 40 degree weather. No place special, a park where I see signs I'm not the only one hunting. I've had some nice finds there this year, a few silvers incl. a Franklin half and...

Another golden goodie ends yesterday's hunt!

We've recently had a streak of very mild weather. Yesterday I decided to grab my insulted waders and take the ATPro for a swim back to a forgotten swimming area that has been a source of great finds. Good signals are very hard to locate so I decided to head into a spot laden with nails and...

Quick & unplanned hunt = success :whites:

Got out of my annual physical (all is good) well after 2:pm with my detector already packed in my trunk. Found a field where I could use the little Sampson digger. First dig, first silver a '45 quarter. The third dig was the '44-D dime. cherry picking for almost 2 hours netted two silvers, 3...

Finds from Wednesday & Friday hunts- (got squat today )

Wednesday I spent 2 1/2 hours in my 5 mil wetsuit with duofold expedition base layer. Three mil neoprene tall socks beneath 5 mil dive boots, insulated neoprene gloves and by the two hour mark the aches began in hands first later the feet a little from the 50 degree water. A meager take for the...

    Monday & Tuesday V3i silver

Re my silver count - Off the top of my head it's at 76 with 7 silver half dollars. 7 gold rings, bunch of silver jewelry and a few large cents. It is that time of year where I will start to add up the finds. Today I got a foil reading VDI of 6 to 8 in the lake bed 14K I have finds from Wednesday...

FS 12"x10" SEF for Soverign & Excal - needs minor repair - see pics & description

12"x10" SEF for Sovereign and Excalibur with cover. This coil does work but needs work. It was on my Excal but I decided to go back to the stock 10" coil. First the coil cable where it enters the coil needs to be epoxied in place. You can see the old epoxy resin from the factory in the close...

    Monday & Tuesday V3i silver

I posted in today's find earlier in the week. I was out with the 12"x10" SEF both days. Turf on Monday, a drained lake on Tuesday. From turf: From the lake bed, where I suspect there are targets sunk beyond detection. HH - Bruce

    Tracking causes noisy operation

You are right. I should have distilled my thoughts down to a simpler explanation IMHO: the controls - what is it? What does it do? How does it effect operation? What do I need for where I am detecting? We used to say in the data center RTFM. I do tell anyone in my area who asks help with the V...

    Tracking causes noisy operation

That's the key question. In a nutshell: because we are a results oriented society. I'll explain my thought on that. One member who went from the DFX to the V3i kept saying he was "fustrated" , "not finding anything anything deep". He said would set the V down and grab his DFX so as to find...
