They are available from a myriad of places, but I just got these off of Ebay.

    New little buddy

Ex-wife #1 was camping one time, and had a cat rubbing against her leg while she sat in a chair next to the fire. She was about to reach down to pet it but looked first and discovered that it was indeed a cat.......a polecat. She just ignored it and eventually it wandered off.

No worries. I just didn't want anyone to take him seriously.

He's full of crap. According to him, the harder the better, and he couldn't be more wrong. Rebound is important, but it's not what's most important. When you make your living in the fire, and you're working over an anvil all day every day, that super hard anvil will tear you up, and you're not...

If you're going to buy a new one, I would highly recommend an Emerson. At the same time I have to recommend that you don't get a JHM. They are too hard, and it'll wipe out your elbow. Used, you can often find an old Vulcan pretty cheap. They're an industrial pattern that a lot of folks don't...

Just ordered the pin material for a few. I got two different designs that are similar but not same. I still have to decide which G10 I want. It will likely be layered, but I can't make up my mind what colors to go with.

I'll post it when it's done, but don't hold your breath or anything, because I've got so many irons in the fire that I hardly know what direction I'm going in. Paying work has priority, and this time of year my schedule often changes from hour to hour. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've...

I don't know if the War Bird was ever in a movie or not. I just liked it and had a chance to buy it for the right price from an estate sale. I've had that Puma for over 45 years. Bought it brand new in '77 for $60. I've had the two Gerbers and the Japanese Browning in that pic for about as long...

Yes, that is a limited edition Gil Hibben "War Bird". There's also a Gerber Mk1, a Puma boot knife, a Browning (Hiitori) drop point, a Case XXX boot knife, and an A.G. Russell "Sting".

Grind out all the rust, then pre-heat that thing to about 300° and get some 4140 tool steel welding rod. That would clean up nicely.

That one has had a hard life! Mine aren't that beat up. I need good edges to do what I do. All the shoes I nail on have hammer drawn clips. Hammers are pretty important, too. My favorite rounding hammer is an old Mustad-Jim Poor, and I use a Roy Bloom ball-pein for clipping. I have a Bloom...

The main reason I like the Pro Forge is its design. The heat rolls inside, so it stays more uniform. And it's advertised to hit 2600°F, so I can forge weld in it, which is important to me because I handmake all my own bar shoes.

I may get back into knife making someday soon. I've made many over the years, but life got in the way while I was married and paying for everything. I've made my living working out of a Pro Forge PF-200 every day for the last 25 years. Before the Pro Forge I used an NC Whisper Momma. I have...

    Xterra Pro/Nox 900 headphones

Nothing to worry about. They should work just fine with either detector, and they won't favor one over the other. Both the machine (whichever you choose) and the phones need to be in PAIR mode at the same time to initialize their interface. After that they are locked in until they are turned off...

    Never had one

Ground Balance always makes a difference, which is one of the reasons air tests are about useless for anything beyond hearing what the tones sound like. The machine needs something to ground balance to. Aside from that, Tracking shouldn't have a thing to do with it.

Seeing that you're in the UK, and probably interested in searching for ancient artifacts so you'll dig everything, I would recommend that at some point you experiment with Prospector Mode w/Iron Mask. It will take some getting used to since it's a no-motion VCO w/o TID, but it will see deeper...

    Never had one

Congratulations! You now own the best kept secret in metal detecting. Best advice I can offer is, run GB Tracking ON, and sweep speed should be around 1ft/second. The machine should run very stable, not chatty. Good luck! If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask.
