Who is getting deep (coins at 8 inches) and how are you doing it?

I've got to chime in on this one. I am a relative beginner at this hobby, having just started seriously this year, with the V3 being my first heavy duty metal detector. I agree with all that has been said about learning the machine. I have been getting up early to hunt parks before work, and...

    coil question 6x10 or 950 ?

I notice that the DD will very often sound like it has a good target when you're just on the edge of a piece of iron. Sweep it from multiple directions and you should be able to tell if it's good, iron, or both.

New Member, New V3 owner (tips please)

I would expect silver to VDI higher than 19 -- that's where nickels and pulltabs show up for me.

New to Detecting & Forum - Question

I'm bordering on obsessive right now, because I'm still trying to learn my new detector. But I probably get 8 to 10 hours a week in. That's about an hour a day in the morning or at lunchtime, and then a couple hours in the morning on the weekends. More if I'm lucky. :) Nope. At least not...

    New to Treasure Hunting/Metal Detecting

If you're willing to put in the time to learn it, I'd say go for it.

    VDI 54 I don't believe it-silver

I've only just found my first silver dime with it, so it's hard to say. :) The dime was only about 6" deep, and was a good hit. But those pennies do hit hard, even the deep ones.

    VDI 54 I don't believe it-silver

It had just rained earlier in the day. But I dug a 1907 Indian head penny that was over a foot deep a few days ago in dry ground. Both were with the stock coil and both were solid hits.

    VDI 54 I don't believe it-silver

I had the opposite experience today -- VDI of 80, hardest hit on the green in the spectragraph. Nice "I'm a dime" signal. Nope. 1919 wheat penny about 10" down.

The V3 is a battery eating machine!!!

I turn the backlight off completely. It's still plenty visible in daylight. I don't know how long the battery lasts, but I've hunted a half day at a stretch with it and not ran it down yet. Lately I've been hunting a couple of hours at a time, and I charge the battery every third or fourth...

My first silver with the V3!

I went back to one of my favorite sites today, and even though it got off to a really slow start, it turned out to be a good day. I had a little voice in my head that said "there's silver here, and today is your day to find some." The little voice was right. :detecting: As you can see in the...

    headphones V3

I don't know about "immediately", but I have noticed mine are starting to crack and wear a bit already, too. I probably have a hundred hours on them, but I've never gotten bug spray or sunscreen or anything else on them. They still work just fine, though.

    V3 finds deep indian

I found a nice 1920 buffalo nickel at the same site today, and it looks to be in much better shape. I'm kinda reluctant to try to clean it though. Same site also give me a tax token, a gold (plated) ring, and a few other misc things today. Hunted out, my foot. :detecting:

    V3 finds deep indian

It's not in very good condition, and ironically, it looked better before I cleaned it up. It had a black layer that was very hard and crusty, and I think the extra contrast of the black made it look like a better coin than it really was. But this is as clean as I'm comfortable with. I've...

    MAN MY SHOULDER HURTS

I have hunted for several hours at a time, and even with the Super 12 coil on, I don't find it heavy at all.

    V3 finds deep indian

The other day I was hunting a site on private property (with permission). The owner told me there had been people "all over that place" with metal detectors before and that I probably wouldn't find anything. But *I* hadn't been all over it before, so I was eager to try it out. I was running...
