    Is this ring gold?

I think it depends on your soil type. I've found many gold and silver pieces that don't corrode, but have a mineral crust built up on the exterior. Gold is always a dark material and silver seems to be a light material. I can meticulously chip away to expose gold, but silver sometimes won't let...

    Dog Tag?

No, I just like to do the research. I learn something new every time I research a found relic.

    Dog Tag?

Probably for the Jacksonville, Tampa, & Key West Railway Co. Love it.

Finds of 2-27-2021. 2 new sites

I survived the breakdown of Texas' highly touted independent power grid, single digit temps, and water outage! It was almost 90 degrees a week later. Fun times. On the other hand, I got out this weekend and zoned out from the bazaar times I'm living in. I enjoyed it thoroughly. How about that...

#1 Find of 2020 and #1 Bucket Lister of 2021

1856 quarter was my best coin. My oldest US quarter. Hard to find coins this old in Texas. My bucket list would be a 3 cent silver. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

So you wanna be a relic hunter?

An archeological dig west of Houston found a shell like that. Their research says: Eley Brothers, London, England. Eley apparently started making these shells about 1828. Excellent find!

So you wanna be a relic hunter?

Are you hunting an old livery stable site?Obviously lots of horses and wooden structures. Or is this some kind of military campground?

    Here's my autumn harvest.

Thanks for the info. Someone once told me they were organ reeds, but accordion makes more sense. I find them everywhere. The first time I hunted that spot, I must have found 6 or 8. Yeah, those spark plugs have to be old enough for all the steel to rust away. They look pretty cool when theyre...

    Detectable rocks?

The most common questions to answer on meteorites is: Is it heavy for its size? Will a magnet attract it? Most have high iron content, but a small percentage are rocky. Common magnetite will make a compass move, but is terrestrial.

    Here's my autumn harvest.

It's been a bumper crop. Hoping for a winter garden, too. Most of these finds are from junky, iron infested sites that I've been hitting for years. There's an 1892O quarter, 1900&1914D dimes, and several wheat cents of unusual dates: 1913D,1917D,1920D,1924,1926D,1933D, and 1936S. There's a 1912...

    Liberty cap

I think what you are seeing is the 1/200 on the reverse of the coin, which = 1/2 cent. The obverse would have the date. Nice find. I've never found any US coins that old in Texas.

164yr old silver amongst latest finds 9-6-20

When I'm not working, I'm out with my CTX3030. Been so busy, haven't been able to post. The 1st pic is a 1914-1927 Dodge Brothers watch fob found among other relics at a spot I've hit before with other detectors. The 2nd pic is the tiniest silver coin I've ever found: 1926 Mexican 10 Centravos...

    1st 2 Times out with CTX3030

Just got a CTX3030 to see what the fuss is about. Took it to a park and empty lot that's been covered by me and probably generations of other detectorists. Will take me a while to learn all the settings, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. The 1892 dime was found at the empty lot just before...

    Is it a marble?

Yes, it’s a ceramic marble. I consider those a poor-man’s marble since I find a lot in poorer neighborhoods. I’ve found the glazed brown like yours, glazed blue, glazed white, and unglazed clay. Nice job on the Franklin half. They seem to be harder to find than Walking Liberty halves.

    AirPods connection?

Does anyone know if Apple AirPods can somehow be connected to a V3. Does the detector use radio or Bluetooth?

Finds of 7/29&30/2020 amongst lots of old trash

Had to work out-of-town this week in West Texas, so brought my detector for some evening hunting. The temperature maxed out at 110 degrees each day. But it was a dry heat. Found a site that had been recently cleared and was covered with old glass in some extremely dry sand. Must have been a...

1893 Barber Quarter / Barber Dimes / Merchant Tokens / Very Old Skeleton Key / Silver Jewelry

Good stuff, as usual from you. I agree, the 1903 locks were a crazy coincidence. Is the Firestone object silver or aluminum? Does the 1915 quarter have a mint mark? S would be nice. The Eagle button is unusual. I wish my aluminum tokens came out of the ground as nice as yours. Can't wait to see...

Silver ring with opals, weird brass key thing, clad, and a button that says "loser"

That must be a vintage 1865 Democratic Convention button. The most sought-after loser button of all time. It's not worth anything, but it preserves the romance of the Civil War. Nice ring! I think the key is cool anyway. I've never seen one like that. 3" bottle opener? The handle is only 2"...
