Well, I'm back from the OBX beach week.... Theres many words I could use on how it went..

I hunt the Gulf and this time of year (Dec-Feb) I can actually walk, slowly, 1/2 mile in the surf and nothing. Have to check to see if detector (CTX 3030, Equinox 800, Manticore) is still operating with help of my sand scoop. Quiet as a church mouse, a dead one at that! Ya get to digging...

Santa brought me some Detecting Goodies

Got my Garrett pouch and with my Garrett carot ready to tackle the surf! Wish the pouch slid along the belt rather then fixed on the belt. Very sturdy, looks good.

Get ready for even more competition on the Beach

Funny, sort of, A few weeks ago I recommended the Vanquish 540 to a friend for her Grandson, who has a low level single frequency detector and his birthday is in a few months - and that was the OLD 540! My gosh, now waterproof and all those features for only $399! Sounds like it would go along...

    Wrapped Gifts on the Beach

I have never been to that area, but just between you and me, I find playgrounds to be GREAT places to find all kinds of cool and sometimes valuable targets. Swing sets, at the bottom of slides, etc. I have found rings, badges, money, ear rings, toys, and of course all the junk that comes along...

Target in Pull-tab zone, but this is Ridiculous

Here is a graph of the relation between tabs and gold rings for the Manticore. Tabs really like the 30s and 40s. Gold bands like the 10s and 20s (but go as high as 80s if 22-24k). As for parts or broken ones, I've found tab parts (beaver tails, rings) from about 9 to 60s, they can turn up...

Gold Rings and Pull Tabs on the Manticore

For the Manticore, here are where the tabs (N=64) and gold rings (N=40) fall. I have Manti set up to emphasize the gold ring range and minimize the tab range. If you cherry pick, one strategy for the Manti is to minimize 0-9 and 30-47; for me this means lower tones (I still might dig it...

    Manticore Tones

Had my Manticore for 2 yrs and HATE the tones!!!!! Have found lots of gold inc a $12,000 tennis bracelet a few weeks ago. BUT - Because of hearing problems I can only use Manti w Underwater Boost. As for the wire 18k cross noted earlier, you cannot limit your upper range to 30 on the...

I was wrong about the Manticore.

Congrats on the Manticore AND Big Boys/Bart. FYI Just found an 18k white gold diamond bracelet w 7 ct of diamonds w my Manticore! Retail price - $12,000!!! Had mine for 2 yrs and haven't drowned it yet! (Drowned 2 Equinox 800s, 2 CTX 3030s over the yrs). My only drawback w it are the poor...

1914-D Wheat Cent to start the new year!

WOW 1914-D!!! I collected coins as a kid in the 1950s and 1960s and always dreamed of finding a 14-D. As an adult, I collected coins for years and finally sold my entire collection last year for about $225,000 and never owned a 14-D!!! WOW and Congrats for a GREAT find. Boy did your post...

Target in Pull-tab zone, but this is Ridiculous

We all get our share of pull-tabs when metal detecting, but this find takes the cake – Hunting a popular beach recently, I came upon a strong signal in the pull-tab range on my Manticore. A single scoop from my Stealth 920i Megascoop revealed a very rare and highly collectible (not by me)...

18K White Gold Tennis Bracelet with 7ct of Diamonds - $12,000 Retail

Hit the beach on Dec 26th and it was early morning; 6:15am, about an hour before sun rise. I planned to hit the wet sand and water. As I worked my way toward the water, I got a very deep hit along the blanket line. The signal was weak, but the 2-D plot on my Manticore was centered on the middle...

Why I wear boots in the water

Absolutely wear boots (scuba boots) in the water AND dry beach. Few years ago I pulled a 5" hook on a 20ft metal lead close to shore and could only imagine the harm it could have caused a wader. Last week I pulled up a barbed hook on a 9" leader, again, in shallow water and may have saved...

    Equinox 15" Coil

I have used the 15" coil on 4 800s for yrs and consider it the only way to go. I now have the Manticore and also only use the 15" coil. I hunt mostly sand and surf and find about 20% more compared to 11-12" coil (I actually did study yrs ago comparing the 2 coils). Although the 15" coil goes...

    Minelab Manticore price change

I've bought several detectors from Bart, and it is my first place to ck on prices and deals. Some dealers still have Manticore, and the Manticore detector only, for $1799. Bart gives away a lot of free stuff, detector bag, digger, etc. You can't find a better deal!

EQ 800 or 900 or Manticore

Had 4 800s and used 15" coil. Drowned 3 of them. Have 1 800 for back-up now but will not hunt in water with it since out of warranty. Replaced with Manticore for past 2 yrs, also with 15" coil. I'm very pleased with the Manticore, have found lots of gold and very small gold. Few days ago...
