Anyone Still Using The 70 or 705?

I won the lottery. A year ago I got to to take a $75,000 dollar flight up to Tucson, as I developed an aneurysm on my aorta. They told me I would most likely not survive the night. Survived surgery and 10 days in intensive care. But, still highly at risk and take enough heart medication to kill...

    This forum has been quiet

Yep, mine sits most of the time. I love the older Garretts like the Freedom series and Scorpion. Don’t much like the 3 9volt batteries and how you install them. The original GTA series are supreme to the new machines in my humble opinion.

    Made me think..

Sometimes less is more. My wife and I sold our home and contents when we retired. We are temporarily relocated in the desert southwest. We are traveling when we are not doctoring. It feels like freedom not having all the stuff and a large home to maintain.

Anyone Still Using The 70 or 705?

The Vanquish was intriguing enough for me to purchase one. The 540 was on sale recently and picked it up for $289.00. It doesn’t have all the features of the 705 like the prospecting mode, makes a great coin machine. The 705 has been used some here in the gold fields. When they stopped making...

We thought our machines were BROKE !!!

My machine for soccer fields is a Cibola with Cleansweep coil. Have tried the CTX with noise cancel and got the same results. Any time you get within 10 feet of that buried wire, your machine will go nuts🤣.

Anyone Still Using The 70 or 705?

I’m not “sold” on the equinox as it has a rechargeable battery. Having owned 2 excals, one learns the excessive cost that minelab demands for replacement. The excal battery costs $160.00 or more. If the equinox had the capability of using a removable nicad or AA battery pack, that would attract...

We thought our machines were BROKE !!!

I ran into problems on a favorite soccer field that has ground transformers with burial wire running across to the stadium style lights. Getting anywhere near to the burial wire will drive a machine nuts.

My DIY at home dream mat sluice setup video

Looks like a nice setup. Never tried the dream mat, looks to be easier to clean up over miners moss. We use a le trap recirculating sluice with good results. Much easier to clean up concentrates alongside the blue bowl for flour gold.

Anyone Still Using The 70 or 705?

Still own the 705, but it rarely hunts in our gold fields. Have become to old and wish I could turn back the clock about 40 years. 😁

Best Metal Detecting Channel on YouTube?

The majority are great at producing their videos for this hobby. A few are too biased for my liking. It’s the old “my Ford is better than your Chevy” mentality. One in particular has been obnoxious with bashing detector companies. DirtFishing has a lot of great videos and his demeanor is...

    Anybody still using mercury?

Probably hard to find these days. Or overly regulated. Remember the days when you could buy dynamite in our hardware/farm stores.

Does Garrett plan on releasing new Whites products

Agreed about the build quality. I will miss Whites toughness. 30 plus years ago, all the detector companies built their machines like tanks. Today, everyone is demanding reduced weight. Unfortunately, plastic is thinned out and one minor drop or bang on a rock has bad consequences.

Does Garrett plan on releasing new Whites products

My preference was the DFX. This machine was certainly capable and has many performance options that can be tweaked. But, certainly has a learning curve to it. One needs to spend a lot of time with the higher end Whites machines. I stopped using them as their machines are to heavy for old arms...

Does Garrett plan on releasing new Whites products

The pictures that I’ve seen of the current 24k have both the Whites and Garrett name on the faceplate. So I doubt there are any refinements or changes. As for future models, there is a computer chip shortage going on. It could take many years to straighten that out. Lets Go Brandon
